I was at the blackwood v flaggies game Saturday and what I saw was two teams having a red hot crack played at a very high standard for a trial. I wouldn't put too much into the result and argue the point too much as any side on any day could smash another!! Let's just say if the top 5 from both the HFL & SFL played in one ten team league it would be a top quality league. But that will never happen. It is what it is.
I say this being a 15 year player in the HFL that respects the game for what it is!! So let's move on and all enjoy our footy whether it be a player or a spectator in our respective leagues!!

Ahhh that old chestnut again!! As discussed previously don't think they would be offered a high enough division to keep all their players satisfied.

funny you should say about which division cause this person was suggesting it would be Div2-3.
could be a lot of travel. could also be a very bold move.

Heard from a well name member of brighton they have been offered a Gold Pass straight to Div 2 next year if wanting to move

If Brighton were to join the saafl they should have to play off against the team that will miss out on a spot on a higher div. Winner gets the spot. Would make for an interesting game of footy.

And with Flinders Park and Portland being the teams being promoted from Division 3 to 2 last season I'd reckon that Brighton would beat them.

That's a pretty good idea GW and it's seems pretty fair but I doubt it would ever happen. So if Brighton moves to the SAAFL does everyone think thet should start in Div 2?

Firstly I don't reckon Brighton will move. Secondly if they were to come across, being put in Div 2 affects more than just the club whose spot they take, it will cascade down the grades. For them to come in anywhere but Div 6 will need to be voted on by all the clubs in the league and I reckon I know how that will go. Not because it affects all of them but because it sets a precedent and eveyone will protect their own patch.

Just because someone apparently made an offer doesn't mean the clubs will let it happen.

I agree that clubs will not want to be seen to be catering to a single team. If the SAAFL were serious, they would put together a package to poach 3-5 clubs from the SFL and place them at appropriate gradings. I suspect other clubs would be more amenable to such a proposal. Given the right approach, I suspect they would get a few takers (from the northern half of the SFL) given the significant parity issues which have plagued the league over the last decade.
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.

And you reckon the Country Football Board and the SANFL will just let that happen.....?

If that were to occur then you can kiss the SFL 2 division scheme goodbye forever and then potentially cause the death of 3-4 clubs over the next 5 years as they are likely relying on some form of hope 2 divisions will once again make them more appealing.
This will then effectively make the SFL a 6-7 club comp and the league will be dead within 2020 as it would be the smallest metropolitan football league in Australia.....
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

It makes sense for Brighton and 4 or 5 other teams to join SAAFL as they are not country clubs.
SAAFL is well managed now and needs to take clubs from Southern that are closer to the GPO in Adelaide than Smithfield etc.
How they are allowed to play in the Country Championships is beyond me and this needs to be changed ASAP.
If they are good enough why would they not be put in the First Division as surely if SAAFL want them they must place them where they are capable of competing.

Any truth in the rumour that Morphy Pk legend Mark Knowles has left the club to be the A grade runner for a rival club?

This league is just about dead as it is, we have had Hackham, Aldinga, Marion all struggle with seniors in the past few years. Who will we be reading about next pre season struggling to have numbers? Some teams may go to saafl some to HFL as a last resort.

Dunno about dead. I enjoy playing in it even tho it has been tough. Maybe the answer is to cut off the northern teams and make it a smaller comp. The bottom sides have spent the past few years working hard on juniors so the next few years they will start filtering thru. I know at the sharkies the junior program hasn't been this well structured in the 7 years I've been there and we will reap the rewards hopefully sooner than later. Jst a thought coz a two div comp dosent look like it would get off the ground.

Interesting perspective, given that last year's 4th-placed team beat the 3rd-placed team from the Hills by 6 or 7 goals and then only lost to the 2nd-placed team by a couple of goals in a game that could have gone either way :)

Yes he was.
Nothing left to prove at Morphy Parks, and as he has been a good mate for the past 23 years, I wish him all the best.

Geoff Hardy is a legend, and I hope he get's some success at Edwardstown as well.
It certainly will be a big day at the pasty this Saturday with ex Morphy boy Ben Porter coaching their A grade as well.
