Maybe the committee needs to do right by the playing group and ask them what they want to do as I think the opportunity to win a C'Grade Premiership would be high on most of their agenda's.

The Gimp wrote:ML Walker, I disagree with Champ. The question shouldn't need to go to the players group because obviously over the last few years they have shown that they don't care about 50gl floggings and are more than happy to keep going along with it thinking it's keeping their club alive.
The committee needs to stand up and make the decision (to play C grade) for the betterment of the club and the league. There is no way the 6-8 "A graders" that were out of your side are going to make up that difference, they probably won't even make up 15gl difference, and that's talking as you will have your whole A grade team on the park every week. Realistically, you will have 2-4 A graders out each week and we all know that you can't cover these outs.
In regards to your junior colts, there's no reason why they can't continue to play in one of the slots left by another of the country clubs that don't have JC's. Your club could then get around these guys and try and bring them through. But, do you have more juniors coming through after that? Do you have any modified teams or Auskick that may be the future of the club?
Unfortunately, your financial troubles stem from how the committee ran the club 5-6 years ago. You had a lot of mercinaries that wouldn't train and just rocked up on the saturday (when they felt like it) to collect the match payments and run around for a bit. This was the beginning of the end for Callington and I don't think a town that small will ever be able to recover and actually be competitive against some of the bigger country division clubs.
That is why I think the HFL needs to go to a three div system because they need to cater for the smaller country clubs that from now on will always find it difficult to be competitive against the top sides. I know clubs go through peaks and troughs but that is why the setup needs to be flexible and allow for clubs to promote and relegate depending on where their club is at the time.
The third div needs to be able to cater for the smaller clubs and the bigger clubs that have a 3rd senior side. This will allow all of these clubs to play some competitive footy and get back to enjoying their saturdays and seeing some success.

Only question is what happens to the teams who win div two or three and there is already a team from their club above them? Do they just stay put and would this make them happy...?

my understanding is that you can only be in div 1 or div 2 if you field all senior and junior teams, and that promotion/relegation is only likely to happen between these two divisions.
the div 3 comp would essentially be a c-grade comp. for example, if blackwood won the div 3 premiership they cannot be promoted.

Yeah, I agree to a point. If someone like a Maccy, S/C, Cally or Milang were to really build their club up strong again and have SC and JC, I would certainly be looking at them joining the div 2.
Div 3 would esentially be C grade teams from the bigger div 1 clubs and their numbers would change from year to year so some years they may/may not have a 3rd team.
I just think there needs to be a div 3 to be able to keep the smaller clubs in the league and have an avenue to be able to play competitive footy each week. I would also like to see a junior colts (or other colts) program follow the 3rd div so that if these clubs have a team of juniors that would like to play, then they can follow their club.

Champ wrote:That would be very difficult because of the mix of clubs with juniors. The other problem is deciding on who gets into division two and who gets into division 3. For example you could say that only teams with junior/senior colts can start in div two which places sedan within reach who now have senior colts. By this ruling Gums will be in div 3...? To go the other way and base it on performance would raise the argument of how long teams without colts can be successful for without any feeders which in turns means we are back at square one when these clubs eventually run out of money or have a mass exodus?

the hfl proposal will see the following teams in div 2:
• 2 x teams from current central division
• birdwood
• echunga
• meadows
• kanagarilla
• kersbrook (who will need to find a U13 team)
• nairne
that sounds reasonabe i ask the question as a outsider, first year at gums why do strong junior teams in the hills country poach junior players from hills country sides who struggle. we had a senoir colts team that got plundered by a nearby team who has 38 senoir colts players, hardly seems reasonable. the senior colt players are getting petrol money too!![]()
all other clubs (gums, maccy, seadan, cally) will be in div 3. to be eligible to go to div 2, they'll need to be able to commit to five teams on match-day.
