Peter Slipper

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

I don't think there is too much to worry about with Thomson but this Slipper business is looking pretty bad still won't change anything next election is still 12-18 months away.

Finally Gillard did what pretty much everyone else realised she had to do a long, long time ago and has severed ties with Slipper and Thompson (at least officially) until these issues are sorted out. I doubt we'll see either sorted before the election but both Slipper and Thompson will support the government because they will not win their seats at the next election. Unless something dramatic happens, such as one or both being found guilty and forcibly being removed from parliament then nothing will really change but the damage done is huge.

Labor's last refuge is the economy because on basically every other issue the public has been lost. However, with a massive challenge to return the budget to surplus without doing more harm than good even on this issue Labor may fail. If that happens, Labor won't be able to pin any blame on circumstances, the Liberals or bad reporting and will have nothing to spruik at the election and will face a massive rout. If they do manage to pull off a reasonable budget in surplus they might just be able to close the gap to something less dire at the election to present an argument at the following election as an alternative. But right now even that looks unlikely.

Classic Pyne.

Changes his stories three times in the wake of all this.

Asking for Ashby's number at 11pm, after having a two-hour drinking session in Peter Slipper's office.

WTF?? This whole story is just WTF????

As for Slipper -

The massage:

Wednesday January 4 2012: James Ashby and Peter Slipper were in Slipper's flat after work. Slipper asks applicant: "Can you massage my neck". Ashby says words to the effect of "yeah righto" as "he did not know what other response to give as he was brand new to him job and he was being asked by his employer'. (Slipper apparently moaned with intense pleasure during the massage)

Thursday, January 5: Ashby was getting ready for work, when Slipper says: "You're a strange one". The following conversation then took place in words to the effect of: Slipper: "You're a weird because you shower with the door shut".

Ashby: "What's weird about that?"

Slipper: "You're a prude".

Ashby: "You can call me what you like, I'm happy to war the tag of prude. I don't know what you private schoolboys got up to in your day, but I've never found it normal to shower with the door open. My dad's never done it, I've never done it, my mates don't do it, that's not weird".

Slipper: "But you even go to the toilet with the door shut".

Ashby:" It's not weird and it's normal".

Slipper: "You should try showering with the door open"

Ashby: "It's never gonna happen"

Slipper: "What have you got to hide? What are you doing in there?"

Ashby: "I'm not doing anything in there, it's just not normal to shower with the door open".

About time he went. A disgrace.
Why did he skip a few years of parliamentary service?

I've never been as disillusioned with federal politics (both sides) as I am right now... I honestly do not believe that either Labor, Liberal or Greens have the best interests of the nation at heart. It's all about point scoring, getting a sound bite for the news and trying to influence the next poll. We really need an election ASAP and I hope there is a clear decision made by the voting public. Minority governments are obviously a disaster. Bring back the days of Howard, Hawke and dare I say it, Keating.

I'd take Keating over Gillard...
