HFL Division 2 (Country)

Talk on any country footy league or club from the SA Country area

It would be good if they fielded a team each week of their OWN REGISTERED PLAYERS, playing players from other leagues or who just show up on the day to get a game is wrong (again if any other club was doing this I'm sure the HFL would react differently). I would say they would only have actually 20 players that are registered to actually turn up an play on the day (for away games). With a lot of those guys doubling up for both A's and B's! What would the HFL rather see One club effected and go back to C grade and hopefully re-build. Or keep loosing Juniors as they have no one to play, and see the senior ranks as a week competition and would rather be challenged every week! The time to make this decision has well passed for the HFL and should have been done at the Start of the Season! yes they took United Eagles on their word they would have (i think it was 40) registered Players turn up to play????? But now Round 4 and I doubt we have seen any where near these number??? Has a HFL offical actually gone out to a Callington/United Eagles Game this year?

Poor bastards at HFL house, I just worked out what they got wrong?! They accidentally made the grand final re-match round 18 instead of round 1

You could be easily forgiven for thinking this oversight was almost on purpose for a bit of a piss take....

Pretty simple solution to that problem as far as I can see. The HFL go to the changerooms before the game, they talk to the Team Manager and look at the team-sheet. They call out each name and every bloke has to show his Drivers Licence. Shouldn't be a problem for anyone. Every man and his dog wants to look at your licence these days to verify things, so why can't the HFL?

I was told by someone before the season say that the Kanmantoo mine was going to be a major sponsor and bring some coin and good players to the club.
That didn't seem to happen.
Surely you can't kick them out while they are still fielding teams each week.
Sure, if they were forfeiting.
To kick them out part way into the season would be real messy IMO.
It would be unfair to teams who are yet to play them and get valuble percentage.
Next year C grade might be a better option.

I know the RMFL Kicked the Murray Bridge Redlegs out part way through a season,
The other RMFL Clubs voted them out due to being non competitive, the same thing may have to happen here.

Going by this article, it wasn't the RMFL who kicked them out, they kicked themselves out due to lack of numbers:

And what happened with the teams who hadn't played them?
Did they protest due to lack of percentange or did the give them all an average percentage?

I believe there is a Presidents' meeting this week to discuss the fate of Callington.
Older, wiser and been there. But still love that grassroots country footy.

Then let's hope a realistic solution can be reached whereby the Eagles can play competitive footy while rebuilding as a club. 'C' Grade is the answer and hopefully heads will rule hearts to make this option happen.
Players win awards. Teams win games. Clubs win Premierships.

The Redlegs team that was thrown out was far more competitive than the current Callington team. Imperials won the flag in 2002 and managed to kick only 23 goals in one game against them. That Redlegs team would kick 35 goals against the current Callington so it is safe to say the current situation is dire.

Why not introduce a similar system as they have in the WAAFL, Basically, when every player is registered, they must send in a photo, along with their drivers licence or proof of age card or birth certificate. A card is then issued to the club with the players photo, name and registration details. It is the responsibility of the team manager to have a folder with every player playing on game day's card in there. 15 minutes before the game starts, the umpires enter the change rooms, and off of the team sheet select 3 peoples names randomly, they then go to the folder, identify those guys, make sure they are wearing the correct number, and job done. Takes about 2 minutes if that. This was introduced because people were playing unregistered, or under assumed names, getting reported and never seen again.

Could be a solution to a few problems. Any thoughts?

Back to the Footy.....
Round 4 -
United Eagles Vs Gumeracha - I dont think the League will kick them out this quick so I see a 40 to 50 goal win for Gumeracha.
Kangarilla Vs Echunga - Have the Wakefield boys been turning up for Kangy? I would have thought they would add a bit of class to the midfield down at kangy, they will need it this week. Echunga by 15 goals +
Kersbrook Vs Nairne Bremer - Good test for Nairne away to see where they really sit this year, Kersbrook at home are very tough to beat and I think they will come away with an easy win. Kersbrook by 7 Goals.
Macclesfield Vs Sedan Cambrai - Maccy to get back in the winners circle and by around 10 to 15 goals.
Meadows Vs Birdwood - Might be hard for birdwoods runners to get going on the small ground of meadows! Could be a close one going on the result against Kangy last week. Birdwood Still by 5 goals.

Spoke to ex-president Owen (with his dog) out at Milang on the weekend. They usa a "key" to work out the draw which they say is the "fairest" method to do the draw. my qustion was why last years winner had 10th from last year then 9th 8th 7th etc when this will have to many lopsided results early. change of subject!

Hopefully that will happen from this Monday and the Callington problem will quieten down. I think this is the wish of everyone except the Eagles themselves but the time has come. C Grade is actually a pretty high standard of footy and they shouldnt be ashamed of being put there. I've seen a few games and it's a lot better than most country div B Grade games which punters pay to see.
