Gillard should go!

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

I think later this year Gillard might resign and continue to think Rudd will be the leader again although Shorten still thinks he's PM material.

They may just have to try another option although unfortunately for them there's not that many worthy candidates who could take on role as PM.

From either side unfortunately. Maybe we should have a thunder dome style parliament. Last one standing is in charge.

A couple of blasts from the past

Bat Pad - on the mark

Not bad for an ignorant fool ;)

I wondered what was going on last week when Rudd and Slipper gave a media interview together and Slipper got stuck into a Lib colleague.

Yes, Slipper has a lot of baggage, but when it's brought up, the obvious question will be why the Libs kept quiet when he was on their side.

BP, I don't think the Libs are in any position to stop it, theoretically.

Then again, anything can happen in politics.

I agree they can't initially, but they have no reason to protect him now.

If the Liberals were smart they would forget about getting into office before the Next election.

Should this occur, Labor have just backed a disgraced MP as the speaker in Parliament, and have had to do so due to in fighting regarding policy (I realise that is an assumption, but one based on Jenkins own words).

Their credibility is plumetting, and if the electorate no longer trusts their brand, no policy can drag them out of the quagmire.

The Liberals should just let it happen, then go after him about the rorting and perhaps even force a by-election.

That would just leave them back at where they were yesterday, but with Labor copping the damage.

Once they disendorse him after labor back him as speaker, he will be Labors problem.

redandblack - where is he now :(

redandblack wrote:No, I think Jimmy has a point.

Mr Abbott has brilliantly turned Labor from a minority position after the election into a position where they have managed to finish the year with a majority of 3.

Tony has effected a cunning stategy of managing to get Mr Oakeshott, from a conservative electorate, supporting Labor, Mr Windsor ditto, Mr Wilkie, a former Liberal member supporting them and Mr Slipper defecting to them.

They've put up about 270 pieces of legislation in a 'dysfunctional' Parliament and only passed, well, mmm, 270 of them.

Tony has managed to turn them from a government a heartbeat away from defeat to, well, arrr, 2 different heartbeats away from defeat.

All this with a compliant media.

Yep, he's made them look second rate, alright :D

i think the facts and polls show, we all want an election NOW. Its julia who knows she will be a goner if we do go to an election , and the fact she keeps on saying, oh i will stay the full term may also hurt her even more in the long run....as voters will become more angry towards her for not listening

Bwahahaha, the only people who want an election now are the same LNP voters who have been bleating about it for 18 months!

Herald Sun readership poll doesn't equal a Newspoll.

Because Galaxy or Newspoll don't ask that question.

You're referring to a News Ltd readership poll.

FWIW, the 2PP is 59-41 to the LNP.

I read something on line this AM to the effect that Christina Kenneally advocates the ALP scrapping the Carbon Tax, or backing it off a bit at least.
She apparently suggested the only other option was for Gillard to resign, though she didn't think that would save the situation, or be good for Gillard or the ALP.
( I can't find the reference again - it was on Yahoo7.)

Calls for Julia Gillard to resign before the Budget are unlikely to gain any traction within the ALP. I would suggest that the best strategy for Julia Gillard right now is to use the Budget to open the government purse strings with some spending in areas that will create jobs and cashflow in the economy.

One option is to state that they will not lower the deficit but will half or two thirds it and will use the funds to invest into infrastructure projects that will create jobs and really stimulate the economy.

As inconceiveable as it may appear, if people can see that the budget is going to actually really create jobs and move money in a good way through the economy she may well get the bounce upward that they are looking for. Pity thought that the very opposite appears to be the signal coming from Wayne Swan in terms of what will be announced.

I would've thought Kristina Keneally would be just about the last person you'd take any sort of political advice from given what her and her NSW Right mates did to the NSW ALP.

She seems to be doing well as chairwoman of Basketball Australia's board to be fair though.

Probably true, although I'd just say "ALP mates" and not think the "Right" nor the "NSW" made any difference.
( I'd wondered if she was a "Kristina" - if so and she is not Scandinavian - that's another reason to not take her seriously.. ;) )

It was the Labor Right that ran the thing into the ground there, the Left of the party are more captives than participants when it comes to the Sussex St machine.

She's a yank, Psyber.
