WHEELS & DEALS
Sounds like that rumour is getting stronger and stronger. Would be very interesting to see how the SAAFL would handle a situation like this if all 4 clubs went across in one year. May also help the SFL as they may be able to create 1 strong division with 10 or 11 teams.
Rush a Point wrote:Moe wrote:Injured Phantom wrote: Just another chance for the same clubs to take cheap shots at the junior situation down our way.
Give us 2 bloody divisions. Let the power clubs bash sh!t out of each other, and the likes of M/Parks & Marion will rebuild and come back stronger.
The constant sniping from others about our lack of juniors is a slap in the face to all the hard working parents and volunteers busting a gut trying to build a junior foundation at our clubs.
Mphy Parks have U/8's, 10's 12's 14's & 16's. Our 16's knocked off Brighton 2 weeks ago who had not lost for 2 seasons. Hopefully that builds into 18's very soon, plus we have healthy numbers at Auskick as well.
I respect all those clubs with strong juniors, but for frigs sake, shut up already.
I think most clubs would be strong in Juniors if they paid them.
Maybe a simple well done on getting your juniors back up and running is what you ment to say. Rush A Point, you have no idea. Well done you've just won the first Tool of the week award this year.

...Because they don't really want to play in the Amateurs (well at least 2 of those clubs I have spoken to), splitting the juniors from the rest of the club, playing in front of 2 men, a dog and a tree

Was a sports club decision, worried there might be too much traffic on the ovalthe footy club is not real happy about it.

Fair enough Phantom, but it is the highlighted sentence I took offence to.
Whilst it amazes even myself to stick up for Marion Football Club I do have intimate knowledge on how the Sports club committee run, and they would have put precidence on the fact that their oval was being used for their Sunday market the next day, and trust me, that is more important in their eyes.(Which is wrong).
On the rumor regarding Morphy Parks to Ametuers.
If they do join, I will tear up my Life Membership.
Mind you, that may be all the incentive they need

The solution is quite simple and just requires the SFL to place some urgency on getting 2 divs up and running from next year. I want Brighton to remain in the SFL and I would find it difficult to continue following them if they went to ammos and would most likely change my allegiance to my most local club. I believe the SFL want to try and get 2 more clubs (Kangarilla and Blackwood), but can't seee that happening as they are pretty settled in the Hills League.
The way to placate the masses is simply to do something rather than saying that nothing can be done until at least 2014. If a forum was to be convened urgently between all clubs and the logistical and other issues tabled, then the comp could be ready to go with 2 divs in 2013. There is a serious lack of drive from the SFL to get this happening and the longer it takes, the more clubs will look elsewhere to play. Sad to see so many one sided fixtures week after week.

Very sad as an outsider looking in but also watching numerous games that the SFL was the best competition outside of SAAFL div 1 on par with Western Border 10-15 years ago.....Now it's arguably behind Hills Central, GSFL and i'd almost go as far as saying Barossa Light. No doubt the top sides are quality but if you want to talk 10-12 competative sides well......

Im sure Christies people would love to travel to Lobethal or Aldinga to Gumeracha. Especially to start the juniors at 8:15am.
For all you 2 division people where do Reynella sit now? Premiers 2010 -> Prelim final (lost by 14 points to M/Vale) -> Draw with Christies this season.
How about Flaggies? Built themselves from the juniors up. Would they have kept them kids all the way through if they were Div 2 for so long?
Anyone who thinks its so easy to build 2 divs got an answer on how Juniors can follow their club around if its 2 divs? Going off last seasons ladder...
Div 1.
BRIGHTON BOMBERS - Full compliment
NOARLUNGA - Full compliment
REYNELLA - Full compliment
MORPHETT VALE - Full compliment
HAPPY VALLEY - Full compliment
PORT NOARLUNGA - No U/18s
FLAGSTAFF HILL - Full compliment
MORPHETTVILLE PARK - None on a Saturday.
Div 2.
COVE - Full compliment
EDWARDSTOWN - No U/14s
ALDINGA - Full compliment
OSB/LONSDALE - No U/18s
CHRISTIES BEACH - Full compliment
HACKHAM - No U/14s
MARION - No U/18s
Going to break up a lot of teams each week. Playing 5 games a week with your 14s/16s/18s sticking around to support juniors is what this competition is about.
The 2 div system will only work when ALL sides can field 5 teams a week on a Saturday. Thats where the SFL needs to work harder if they want to go back to 2 divisions.

Agree it's not simple, but sittinig on your hands and not engaging the clubs does not solve those issues. There are logistical nightmares already with the structure of the one division, so 2 divisions in reality doesn't add any more complication to the equation. It only takes a group of wise heads from all clubs to get together and put the proposals forward, eliminate those that don't work, work with the remaining solutions, choose the most workable and then try to file off the edges.
Will it ever be perfect, no, but is it better to maintain a status quo that is eroding the value of the SFL to clubs, players and supporters and will eventually see the league as either a rabble or disappear all together. We are already seeing some fraying at the seams and we are also hearing more and more whispers about clubs dissatisfaction with the SFL administration. I am under no illusion that it's not easy, but far more complex issues than this have been solved by getting people to the table.

What a crock of you know what, i understand most people put their clubs best interests in the forefront how about looking at the bigger picture. Clubs will land where they currently belong and everyone has the the chance to work themselves up to the top division. The fact of the matter is there are a couple of clubs that shudder at the thought of playing in div 2 and will put up an arguement no matter what.
We need to stop putting up obstacles up that aren't that hard to work through and start finding the solution. The draw has holes in it already and i dont see 2 divisions making it any worse. Other than div 2 under 18s there doesn't appear to be any major issues. What's stopping us to moving u18s to a Sunday league along with C grade? 2 divisions is not a new concept and has worked before and while i understand its not going to be a perfect world it will be a hell of a lot better than the one we currently live in. With the addition of a couple of clubs i think we will be back to being a league that outsiders envy and want to be a part of.
