As I said before BPWizard, don't gloat on an unexpected win, we certainly didn't. I might just add that the 2 gun forwards who are being kept "quiet" at this time will cause a great deal more pain than my 2 ever would and will be the difference in TTG taking this comp apart. Luxury of a quality high level club my friend.

TTG are probably the 2nd or 3rd best team in the comp, but they are a much better team at home, and even then you still beat them by nearly 4 goals. That would be at least 8-10 goals at a neutral venue imo, and more again at Mitchell Park.
TTG's home ground advantage makes Angle Vale's win even more ipressive.

TTG led at every change against us lutz, we kicked 4 goals in the last 6 minutes to get up. Angle Vales win was impressive no doubt, but Mount makes up the 3 goals easily. AV are just starting to get their heads around the new game plan of running both ways so they will only get better. I do rate them highly and they did knock us out in the 1st semi last year.

Yank Man has it completely right, it was close all day with MP and the end result didn't do the game any justice. We also had a much stronger side against MP than we had against Angle Vale.

I also want to know why Angle Vale can have their club umpire in their A's? My understanding that in Div 7 A's it is supposed to be 2 neutral SAAFL umpires, which has been the case in every other game except the last two times we have played Angle Vale.

That is exactly the same question i asked a while ago. Only certain people on this forum are allowed to make comment on these muppets, i was told that they are doing a tough job and we need to make allowances. BS they are getting $100 bucks for 2 hours work. How many of you guys are on $50 an hour. The umpiring in the C grade comp is of a much higher standard and that is with 2 club umpires. We had 1 ump this year give a 25mtr penalty cause the coach said "You are kidding me". These blokes are a bit too precious and need to stop watching AFL.

Think you'll find Haynzy that the Angle Vale B grade umpire is also an amateur league umpire, so he does both their games

Has a lot to do with the Leagues lack of umpires. At one stage Div 7 looked like having to supply their own umps so they have been working thru it well. Found the AV ump to be pretty good personally, don't know what you guys thought Haynzy.

He is pretty good and does pay them both ways... unless the score gets tight ;)

Should be kept well away from the AV forward line IMO.

But still, far from the worst umpire going around.

Unfortunately I don't have much good to say about it. When we played down there last year towards the end of the season in a must win game to have any chance at finals, he made it almost impossible paying 11 or 12, 25 meter penalties through the game for silly reasons and then frustration due to silly free kicks. I even asked him at one stage why he won't let us just play the game after a silly 25 meter, which he replied "you guys have it in for me". He was then given a standing ovation as he walked off the field by the Angle Vale supporters.

He was better on Saturday but my view is that no matter how neutral you think you are, if you are umpiring a team that you are involved in and know the players personally then decisions tend go easier for that team, which was still obvious on the weekend. This can be the difference between winning and losing in a close game. He copped a spray from some supporters as he left the field, which caused some of the Angle Vale supporters to try and come to his rescue, which nearly caused a fight in the stands.

If they are going to use an umpire that is affiliated with the club he should only be allowed to umpire in their defensive half just to protect the other team from silly free kicks in front of goal.

Is it true that the umpire from a particular club MUST umpire the oppositions forward lines so he/she is not able to give free kicks to its own club in its foward lines.

(the topic of the av ump strangely compelled me to ask this question)

The umpire in question actually attends the SAAFL umpiring training so it's a bit of a grey area.

In the A grade he is considered a league panel umpire so he is entitled to do both ends.

If he is a SAAFL umpire, let him umpire other games. Just not Angle Vale. Either keep the competition completely fair or make all teams provide club umpires and have the same rules as the B grade where club umpires are restricted to their teams defensive zone only.

Would have thought some not-so-common sense would prevail and the same logic be applied in the A/C Grade games to avoid any issues.

If he umpired only in the oppositions forward line it would solve a lot of the drama in my opinion.

It's unfortunate that this is the case, I remember when Smithfield were getting flogged in the B's a few years back I was umpiring for them, at half time I'd say to the other ump that we're staying up the same end because only one of us was doing any work.
It was weird going and umpiring in a different league that I had no ties with, one of the first comments made to me by the head of the umpiring fraternity was "You are a classic example of amateur league B grade umpiring", he was referring to my positioning and how I was reluctant to make calls when the play was in my counterparts end despite me being in a better position to see what happened.
I learnt more in 4 or 5 weeks than what I did in 4 or 5 years.
