Or how many more goals Plugger, Dunstall, Ablett etc would of kicked if they had the soft NON contact rules in marking contests that there is today

They would also lose out on goals due to the nature of todays game ie. Flooding.

Thomas Offered Two Match Ban

MATT Thomas has been charged with a Level Three engaging in rough conduct offence by the AFL Match Review Panel (MRP) for a bump on Bulldog Tom Liberatore in Sunday’s game at Etihad Stadium.

Port Adelaide has not yet decided whether it will contest the charge, which carries a two-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on video evidence available and medical reports provided by the Western Bulldogs, the MRP assessed the incident as being reckless, of medium impact and resulting in high contact - resulting in six activation points towards the classification of a Level Three offence.

This equates to Thomas receiving 325 demerit points on his record and a three-match sanction if he chooses to contest the change.

Thomas has no previous good or bad record at the tribunal.

THE AFL is investigating Western Bulldogs big man Will Minson after Port Adelaide's Danyle Pearce was offended by an obscene taunt about his mother.

If what is reported is correct in the Advertiser, whislt it shouldnt be said, is it really a big deal? Heard far worse. Pearce should have been quicker with a comeback line IMO.

Crazy times indeed. Did this really warrant front page attention and a club enforced suspension? No.

As for Thomas, 3 weeks (before guilty plea) seems a little harsh for his bump. But hey, no tackling, no bumping, no sledging allowed these days. Medical evidence killed him.

Barely grazed him...there wouldnt be enough players to participate in the SAAFL if this sort of thing happened there...everyone would be suspended...

Didnt barely graze him, kid had to be subbed off. Was late but three weeks is over the top

I could understand a 1 week ban, or 2 with poor prior record (which Thomas didn't have), but 3 is overkill. High hit, kid got a bit dazed, give him a week at worst.

If the ball was still within 5 meters Id say it was fair. Thomas didnt hit him flat out, it looks like more of a token bump more than anything. If its outside the current rules, which I cant keep up with these days, he should get one week at most. Then challenge it and get let off with a warning.

players know not to do it
he had time to pull out, didnt so he should cop a suspension... but yes 3 weeks a bit hefty.

two at most before guilty plea

I thought Liberatore was a hard little nut? I cant believe how soft the bump was and I am even more puzzled by a bloke with a good record getting two weeks for that.
