Yes, yes we are getting away from the topic. I'll leave it that.

On this track, I had a history of Adelaide Lutheran called "A Bulldog For Me" (by Wayne Gladigau?) covering their history up until about 1990 or 1991 maybe. It has a reference to their times in some of the former competitions that have had a mention earlier on the post and their tussles against rivals such as Port Presbyterians, etc.

Unfortunately, I had to handball it to Melbourne Sports Books when I left Melbourne last August when I moved to Perth ... a case of keeping only one in three books so it wouldn't cost a bomb to move. He may well still have it if anyone is interested - his number is 03 9662 1085.

Does anyone actually have a list of the clubs that played in the CD, NM, NN, UC and AS comps and the years they played? And stretching it, how many teams/divisions they had at their height and their last season? I could guess from the SAAFL book but hopefully someone can help me in a quicker timeframe - and my knowledge of Vic & SA footy is better.

I know it's a stretch. I am doing some research on WA country footy competitions (competing teams year by year & premiers list) and some people and newspapers just didn't give much of a thought to preserving some of their history so that anoraks like me could bundle it up for them.

I've only been doing the WA stuff for about 2-3 months on and off, but then again I've only been here for 8 months - having a girlfriend and working in a sporting organisation in Perth does make it hard to devote more than about 30 minutes at night per day to the research.

I have co-ordinated the whats, whos and wheres and have made a great start thanks to stumbling across a couple of books, Budgets and websites that have given me some decent info to sift through. Despite being the off-season for me, I haven't had the chance to take enough of my time off in lieu to go the the Battye Library and really start plugging a few holes in some of the leagues. That said, if the WA rural papers are as good as Vic country papers in the 40s through to the 70s, then maybe it won't be so bad - I have a list of defunct Leagues (and a couple that snuck under the radar in the early C20) and am pinpointing their tenures.

The journey is only a few steps in, but I'm sure the light is visible up there in the horizon.

Have many of the metro clubs put out club histories. I know some of the Divvy 1 & 2 SAAFL clubs have, as well as Adelaide Lutheran and there is one for the SAAFL. Any others?

Yep, that book is an interesting read. Wayne Gladigau is still involved with the club as their statistician - PM me Phil if you would like his details. (That's if you decide to return to this site. )

*Greek Camden split i think
Camden joined PHOS to bring about PHOS Camden
Greek joined Henley to make Henley Greek, they then took Greek out of it,not sure why.
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

From the SAAFL website:

1987 - Greek renamed Greek-Camden.
1994 - Plympton High O.S. renamed Plympton High O.S. & Camden.
1994 - Greek-Camden renamed Henley Greek.
1998 - Henley Greek renamed Henley.

Hopefully that helps!

Good to see that the "Mail Medalists" book is being updated in August - if only we had such detail on the old metro comps!
