The top four in Hogg Division IV has been settled in the 16th round after 5th ranked Red Cans dropped their match against Bubbles Blunderers. The top four teams will be jostling for position next week with Ankles United looking the weak link and a real advantage for whatever teams faces them in week 1 of the finals. If I was Ecky I'd rather be playing against Ankles rather than Big Al who has been in fine scoring form for many weeks now (sorry redwhiteandblueblooded).

There are two teams outside the top eight who can still make the eight with Some Can't pulling off a sensational win against the Brodlach Bombers to keep their season alive. The Cant's smashed the Bombers who missed the opportunity to shut the gate on a top eight rival. Bubbles of Blue downed Cans of Red and finals are tantalisingly close for Jacko's mate. Hodges_Heros got back on the winning list and whufc smashed the wooden spooners Kiwi Krappers to also stay in the hunt.

The relegation battile is till open with Carp somehow keeping alive but a lot would need to go right next week for them to avoid the drop. The Kiwi has proven itself to be a flightless bird and he'll face the drop for the second straight year and FOOTYLEDGENS has been ordinary all year. Stueys Overdrive and Andys Northern Cats are also in the gun and Moe's Onegameatatimers aren't safe either. I reckon it's the current bottom four that will face the drop and that Moe and Andy will win by the two sweetest words in the English language...De-Fault.

Ecky's Fevolas has won the minor premiership by six points after Ankles United upstaged Stazza in the final round of the season. Big Al continued on his winning ways to dispatch the Red Cans and Hodges_Heroes thrashed the Cub to send him spinning out of Division IV. Some Can't snaffled the final top eight spot after they smashed Carp as the Bombers suffered a disappointing last round loss despite scoring 2354 points against a team below them on the ladder. OUCH. Bad luck Brodlach.

There will be some excellent matchups in this finals series in what has been a high quality league in Division IV this season. Teams on the way down to Division V include Overdrive who lost out big time to his former work colleague Northern Cats, the struggling Carp and FOOTYLEDGENS who have had a dog of a year. Just as bad has been the Kiwi who will also go down to Division V despite defeating Onegameatatimers who will stay up in Division IV. If you've been tanking Moe you've failed LOL.

Sorry Reb, but not tanking old son.
With Tuesday night work, Wed junior meetings, Thursday night scouts, Friday nights auskick & Under 8's training & no access to a laptop at work anymore, supercaoch had to take a back seat.

Hogg Division IV Finals Previews

Elimination Finals
Hodges_Heroes v Some Can’t
Red Cans v Bubbles Blunderers

Qualifying Finals (winners promoted to Division III)
Eckys Fevolas v Big Als Big Boys
Stazza FC v Ankles United

It has been a fairly lopsided Division IV with several giants of the comp dominating against some of the weaker teams who fell to the bottom eight of this league. This week is the start of the showdowns that will determine which four sides are good enough to go up to a Division III comp that has outranked Hogg Division II this season. In the elimination finals Hodges_Heroes are the stand out team and they should account for Some Can’t who has performed really well to just to make the finals. They need to go up another level again to beat Hodges and I don’t reckon they can. Red Cans have shown some fine form this season but tend to win and lose matches in blocks. Coming off two straight losses I reckon the plucky Bubbles Blunderers can pull off what some might consider an upset.
The top four teams have been very consistent in this league but such is the calibre of the teams below in the knockout finals the best way to earn promotion is to win through the Quallies. Eckys Fevolas and Big Al have been the best two teams of the year and this one is almost impossible to tip. I reckon Eckys can win this one but it will be a high scoring final with not much in it in the end. In the other Quallie there is a rematch of Stazza and Ankles after Ankles United knocked off Stazza last week. I’m tipping Ankles to repeat the dose as I reckon Stazza might have already played their best footy for the year with lower scoring and a few losses starting to appear in the form line.

Congratulations to Ecky and Stazza who have earnt promotion to Hogg Division III next season. Ecky cleaned up a disappointing Big Al with ridiculous ease in his final to emerge as the outright premiership favourite in Division IV. Stazza has been one of the leading teams all year but appeared to be wavering but despite a less than stellar score this week they accounted for a suddenly points shy Ankles United who could not survive the brutal REB kiss of death. On that point scoring form Ankles you are no chance to earn the kiss of death this week mate. ;)

The bad news for Big Al is that they will now have to face Hodges_Heros who look one of the more fearsome combinations to miss the top four in the Hogg this season. Big Al will have a fight on his hands trying to stay in the flag and promtion hunt that is for sure. The Heros ended the brave resistance of Some Can't who showed that he will be a genuine contender in Division IV next season as long as McAlmanac doesn't remember to enter the Hogg next year or if Pup doesn't side to make a comeback.

Bubbles of Blue are now on the Bubbles of Champagne as the Red Cans went down pretty easily in the other knockout finals. All of a sudden promotion is on the cards for Jackos mate as he outscored Ankles by a lazy 281 points this week and will go in confident.

So two teams are up to III next year and next weeks' winners will join them. Ecky looking pretty solid for this flag after despatching Big Al and he will also get the winner of Bubbles and Ankles in his Prelim.

That's somehow 13 wins and 15 undefeated games in a row for me now in this League!

Hogg Division IV Finals Preview

1st Semi Final Big Als Big Boys v Hodges_Heroes.

Division IV has had five dominant teams this season so one of those dominant sides is going to be the unlucky one and miss out on promotion and this is the match that will decide which one of those good sides misses out. Big Al has been a worthy contender for the title but was crushed by a rampant Ecky last week and now face a very dangerous looking Hodgey in this cut throat Semi Final.

Hodgey was the last team to not lose to Ecky so I reckon the Fevolas would be reasonably happy to see the back of the Heroes here. However, I reckon that Hodges_Heroes will get up and continue to give Ecky something to think about. Big Al doesn’t deserve to go around in Divvy IV next season and I expect them to hit back this week but I reckon that Heroes look too strong and that they will be the team that will get promoted and go on to play against Stazza in the Preliminary Final.

2nd Semi Final Ankles United v Bubbles Blunderers

Ankles United are having personnel problems at the moment and have also struggled due to the kiss of death that is often applied whenever I tip a team to win a Hogg Shield match. You are lucky redwhiteandblue that I only write previews during the finals ha ha. Bubbles Blunderers are a team that hasn’t looked all that threatening for the majority of the season but now that the whips are cracking they have emerged as a genuine contender and Bubbles won’t die easy.
Ankles are a very tough team to read as one week they are smashing sides and the very next they fall in a hole. The last two weeks have proven that as they played the same opposition twice and got two different results.

Seeing as Ankles didn’t win the match that counted and Bubbles did, I’m going to provide great relief to Ankles as I am selecting Bubbles Blunderers to win this final and advance to a match up against the mighty Ecky’s Fevolas in the Preliminary Final. This would mean that Bubbles would get the promotion into Division III and that Ankles United would be in the same unlucky to miss out on promotion boat that I believe will be occupied by Big Al.
