giffo wrote:You were at the wrong bar Wedgie. The one by the commentary position had New. Someone was making some good money though that day, $5 for heavy $4.50 for light and $3 for water :x on a fairly warm day. Ahhh, the local community footy & cricket clubs, $3.50-4.00 for a Pale depending on venue. :D
I went to the one near the commentary position, must have run out (it was before the league game started) but no sign up to say anything about New. Still at $5 I don't think I would have had too many anyway after enjoying three pints of pale at the Royal and having to drive.

Wedgie....my apologies...it wasn't Prospect, it was at Glenelg that were selling cans
of beer for $5.00....not to mention the price of their pies and pasties.
I cost me $10.50 for 1 balfours pie,1 balfours pastie and a coke.
The exact same at Prospect the week before was $9.00.
I think it's byo at Glenelg next time.

How many of the bar staff are volunteers?

Plus running costs, its not like they are trying to rival Bill Gates for daily income

It would be nice if they could all agree on a price for the year so all the venues were the same, might stop a bit of angst when everyone else goes to a Glenelg home game

We had a volunteer at the Taj Mahal for many years but he retired last year (and got Life Membership recently) and as I understand it all our bar staff are now paid, not huge amounts, I think $120 was mentioned, not sure if that's each or split.
North would only have to sell 40-50 cans to cover $120 at $4 each.

Its time other clubs looked after their drinkers as much as North do. :D

As it sould be. Just been in the BWS on Prospect Rd and they have 'buy 2 cartons of T New (30 pack) for $60'.
Good drinking value if you fancy swill such as this. Not sure what the clubs pay for their beer but they'd be doing very nicely at this sort of mark up.
$5 a beer at the footy is getting ridiculous.

That would be a loss leader to get you into the store to buy other not-so-discounted products.

Can't go past grassroots footy - In Vic and WA $3.50 for a heavy, $3 for a light and $5.50 for a Beamer. If the price is reasonable enough, then people will buy them and cover their costs easily without the need for an extra money grab.

The pricing of most SANFL clubs makes grassroots footy a more attractive option for a drink - and one reason why in Victoria there has been increased interest in grassroots footy over the AFL and VFL (which is now heavily reliant on AFL $ to keep some clubs viable). Many Division 1 EFL and DVFL match crowds equal or better a significant number of VFL crowd figures.
