Unley Vs Disticts - Should be a cracker. Unley have a younger more fitter side but im not sure what that will mean coming into the finals against a more experienced side like Districts. By the looks Green will more than likely play the C grade. A solid on baller with a bit of pace will need to go with him all day. Just seems to find the footy so easily and gets through traffic in the same. Plus playing in the 2's will help Unley. Unley would need to shut down Districts midfield from the outset. Rocket will need a solid tag. Most of the guys have a good footy brain so Unley will need to be on their toes. Especially their gun forward. Not sure what Districts will be like on the Unley Deck. Big difference to Largs. For me, Districts by 3 goals

Our game Vs Athelstone - Should be just as good. I didnt recognise a lot of their players on Sunday watching their game against Districts. A lot of new faces. They will be very strong on their home deck. They never used a zone type defence (from what ive been told) and since playing us ive been told they are. Their set up of 3, 4, 3, 1, 3 looks impressive. Did stop Districts on a few occasions and were able to push the footy back in without a drama.Their run off half back was just as equal as their defensive pressure inside 50. Beng able to have that one player losse out back helped them well on Sunday. By any means its going to take the strongest side that wants this more and play the looser of the above game. Again that will be played against Unley.

Has this been Greeney posing as someone else all this time?

If these were the thoughts of the opposition teams I would be having a sneaky grin on my face if I was the Jets' C2 coach!

FWIW, I've only seen Green play once, and I thought he was best for his side. Was in the best a fair few times this year, played a bit of reserves, and finished about 5th in the association medal...

Green is a real asset for this team, he contributed again today and was one of 25 who did their job.

Lot's of depth out there at Mitcham Girls High. One wonders are they as good and capable away from Dadddy's Den?
On another note bad luck to see the end of Portland, would love a local derby next week but good to see the end of the uncanny A grade one week C grade the next, game breaker exploitation they had up forward

Some very good points LMA!

The depth of any club is best measured at Finals time, not Round 13 against Portland or Round 17 against Districts and it's amazing what a bit of pressure at the contest can do to any side, Young or Old! That's the lesson we learned when those respective sides took us to school during the Home and Away season.

Like most C grade sides we have had 8, 10 and even 12 changes most weeks. This week the Ins were all quality and that will make any side stand tall.

Playing a Home Final is the option for any Minor Premier, but I need to ask, surely the Big Bad Boys from Largs Bay were not beaten by 7 goals, by a bunch of Mitcham School Girls. I don't think so.

One thing is for sure is the Jets do learn quickly and will find out on Grand Final day how well they have learned their lessons - the other thing that is still to be determined though is - will Districts make it past Raggies. Based on what I have seen the last 4 weeks, if Big Ben's mob from Gorge Road kick straight, they will be hard to beat.

I think we will all agree that it has been a great season, full of interest and showed plenty of talent - good luck and WE WILL see the winners in the GF.

Your right Darth Demon, don't get too upset at a late night post :drinkers: We expected you guys to be alot better than Rd 17, a testament to the clubs depth. I said before we were lucky to beat Athelstone last week and we will need to be at our very best this week to get a chance to play against the Jets again, if that happens we will need to find some pace.

All good, had a couple of quiet JB's myself last night! 8)

We have really enjoyed our contests against the Big Boys...Districts, Raggies and Portland. And they all have given us a lesson or two.

Glad to see the back of the Power - no offence Satchel.

LMA, wouldn't you want the game to be played on a saturday? this now means the winning team will only have a 6 day brake with gives unley even more of an advantage. i can understand the first week or two of finals some need to be played on a sunday because the shortage of umpires. Prelim weekend there is only one game from each grade so umpires would not be a problem.

Agreed. It appears commonsense has prevailed and as Ash Man posted, 10.15 on Saturday at Thebby. I know with our A's still playing that the club weren't committed to paying for a home final for the C's on the Saturday, which is fair enough would be hard to draw enough people there as a standout game to warrant the fee.

Full Forward big Russ good to go, but an elusive pocket/flanker could be doubtful with such an injury ;)

Prelim Final

Great game of footy between the Raggies and Port Districts yesterday.
3 time in 4 weeks the teams have played with raggies winning the last minor round game by 52 points but Districts winning both finals by 6 points a fortnight ago and 5 points yesterday.
never more than a goal or two in it with the lead changing a few times during the game.
The game was played in great spirits and was a hard hitting affair with players crashing in to be first to the ball and get it out to their runners.
1 point the difference at quarter time and Athelstone's inaccurate kicking (1.4) in the 2nd quarter (with the wind) saw Districts with a 4 point lead at half time.
The third quarter was a dour struggle with Districts kicking 3 points and the raggies just one goal to see Districts lead by a point at 3 quarter time.
The last quarter Districts kicked 2 straight against the wind and Raggies kicked 1.3, the last of which would have caused a draw was only about 30 seconds before the final siren.

When you play someone so frequently with such tight results you very quickly develop some respect for your opposition, which was displayed by both teams at the end of the game with some lengthy congratulations/commiseration handshakes.

Next week is the GF. The Jets only dropped two games all year and Districts 4. On paper the Jets would be favourites but we all know you don't win on paper you win on the oval on the day - so good luck to both teams.

Raggies actually won the last minor round by 21pts, but nonetheless a good write up on the game.
The game yesterday pretty much started how the Qualifying final finished, with a centre circle infringement this time going to Athelstone and after that was a tough arm wrestle. We thought that there was one umpire out there who was ridiculous with his decision making especially in giving 25m penalties, giving blokes penalties for simply asking "who's free is it" or just saying that "he was off" you pretty much couldn't even look at this bloke without penalty.

Anyway bad luck to Athelstone we have had a good contest over the last month, hope you have a good weekend to finish off the year, we now look towards the Jets in the big one this week. Not sure if Div 4 usually have a set ground for the GF but with Unley in the GF in all 3 grades and with them Playing Scotch in the A's I'm tipping either St Mary's or Campbelltown for a 10.15 game this week.

oops my bad LMA. 21 points was the margin. Must be my fuzzy brain this morning. There was talk last might that our B Grade would be at Campbelltown Oval this week, do you might be packing a cut lunch and water bag and heading south to St Mary's. All will be revealed Monday or Tuesday.

I recon your pretty close with the Ground prediction - odds on St Mary's OR Richmond Oval OR based on Scotch playing a number of games at Thebarton late in the Home & Away series did the Scotch President wield his ever increasing influence and Thebarton may host the A4 GF. Looking forward to the challenge, Districts will be different proposition this Saturday.
