Schubert allegedly told people prior to that GF that he was after three blokes in that GF - 1) C. Gowans, 2) J. Gowans, 3) D. Schell. That came from a very close family friend of the Schuberts, who, interestingly, has a strong CDFC connection.
Please don't pretend Schubey was a saint. Great bloke though.

And if Macca's a saint at Norwood. There's no reason The Gowans twins can't be elevated to that status at the Ponderosa.

I know James regretted that incident. It cost him another jack Oatey, and put a dampener on the post gf celebrations. Why Schubert would hit someone behind play with about 5 minutes to go was idiotic. He probably expected to get away with it given how close it was to the final siren. Not expecting the retaliation or to get caught by the cameras (well done to mark soderstrom for spotting it). The moron reminds me of the amateur league hacks who try to make a name for themselves by hitting ex afl or sanfl players. Maybe some of us would not have retaliated in the same situation, maybe james shouldnt have and maybe Schubert would have got away with it Scott free.
The gowans boys are the most significant contributing factor to turning the club around and having a significant positive impact on a whole community. Legends on and off the field.

It was a love tap in the guts. Didn't seem to slow Gowans down. Slight over reaction.

Good to see that Centrals supporters are trying to justify his over reaction - if he wnated to square up then he should have gone for the same target area in the same manner as Schubert.

Youre wrong as well as obviously blind.

(edit)
P.s makes your edit quite "funny" on the rails.

IIRC some of the North fans in the outer were pretty pissed off by that stage and starting to go totally feral.

Maybe Schubert caught some of that?

Yep was wrong (old age) re where he hit him but Gowans wasn't bleeding after the contact from Schubert - he got that after he hit Schubert which you can clearly see from this clip of the image from the 1.17 min mark.

Can't see it at all, nice selective memory though. Pisses me off every time I see it. James was best on ground and the game was all over when that $&@$ hit him. You can see how upset James was as he sat on the bench. He tells the ump who started it and the ump says well look at the tape. Unfortunately soders found it too late to report the tool. Jarman was on t.v that night blasting James, I don't know if he knew what happened beforehand or not.

I thought Schubert got a game or two for the initial hit on Gowans?

Nope footage was discovered too late under trial by video, but in time to prevent James getting more than three games.

hmm I am sure Schuey said he and Gowans kissed at made up at the Tribunal? Still doesn't much matter now. I wouldn't think that he is losing any sleep now it is being revisited by supporters from both sides given how many GF's and flags he has won.
