Both Brighton & Flagstaff Hill had of their 8 teams in finals, and each has 3 teams playing in GF.

There must be some sort of points allocation depending on premiership table position per grade
(Like SANFL does) It just isn't publicised, but would definitely help if it was.

The SANFL has had an award for years called the Stanley H Lewis Award which is awarded to the club that has accumulated the most points in the Minor Round based on 100 for a League win, 50 Reserves, 30 Under 19 and 20 Under 17. I'm not sure what it is now that it has gone to Under 18 and the short Under 16 season but presumably something similar.

I assume the SFL COTY Award is based on something similar however it would be nice for the SFL to formally identify how it is awarded and what, if any, points, system they use and for what grades get counted. So on that basis, HV possibly edge out Brighton and Flaggies based on total games won across the 5 Saturday grades and the heavier weighting to the A grade. So if the SFL advised us of the criteria we wouldn't have this debate almost every year.

We certainly don't lose sleep on it at Brighton because with 3 teams in Grand Finals this Saturday and with 1 of them being the A grade (with the other 2 Saturday making a Prelim and the 3 Sunday teams making the GF with 1 flag) we know where we currently stand as a club and we don't need some award to confirm that.

The bottom line - the Club of the Year is the team holding up the Premiership Shield at 5pm on Saturday.

Not that success in lower grades and juniors isn't important but the A grade Premiership club usually has some strong teams and possibly premierships in those grades as well.

See you all on Saturday.

Well said Down The Hill - recognition must go to the clubs like Flaggies and Brighton who managed to get more than 1 team there on GF day. Its a hard slog to get there with 1 team let alone 2 or 3

Whilst we would have loved to have more teams competing on Saturday we are fully aware that clubs are judged on their A grade performance and an A grade premiership is vital in attracting (or keeping) juniors. It is also about how those players interact with the juniors and our lads are top notch at that.

HVFC had 14s and 16s make a prelim, B grade make a semi and the 18s narrowly miss out on the finals.

Also on Sundays our lads continued to improve with 14s also narrowly missing finals and 16s and C grade making the semi. The Sunday Juniors are always going to be up against it given the nature of this competition. We judge our Sunday success on the improvement of players and the amount that pushed for a game in the Saturday 14 and 16 teams or C graders pushing for a B grade game and there have been lots of players earn a Saturday game

Bring on the weekend 8)

The award would have to be based on the minor round only, if it isnt how can you do it without knowing the Premiers?

Obviously does not cover the Subbie programs either

As stated only Sat sides as Sunday footy was only intended for overflow of Sat sides.

I would have thought it was club of the year, not Saturday club of the year.

Surely the club incorporates everything from Auskick to A grade?

Is the award purely on field result based for Sat teams?

No love for Flaggies there Baz!! Agree with all your tips except I think Flaggie will win the Under 18's. Also the main game is a real toss of the coin and will depend on who pulls up best from last week. Will be great to see the midfield battle unfold and both teams have access to quality all over the ground. Hoping for a free flowing game, but somehow not sure it will happen. Nah, Brighton by plenty.

Wouldnt Flaggy Under 16's be strong favourites?

Talking to a Valleys parent at last weeks game, she said Valleys and Flaggies dominated the comp this year.

Fair point, Flaggies and Valleys were definitely the two stand outs in the minor round. Valley went out in straight sets, and Flaggie have continued on so could be showing a slight bias there.....

I saw this on the GSFL forum - interesting and could it help even out the SFL?????

"Allocated points has been given out for season 2013
Willinga 9
Yankalilla 9
Langhorne creek 11
Victor harbor 11
Strathalbyn 11
Mt compass 13
Encounter bay 15
Mclaren 15
Myponga sellicks 15
Goolwa pt Elliot 17

For those that don't know a new points system was voted in at the delegates meeting early in the year the points are calculated on a average wins system over the last 3 years"

Just did the calculations and if we adopted this system, this would be the allocation of points for next season:
Brighton Bombers 7
Reynella 9
Noarlunga 9
Happy Valley 11
Morphett Vale 11
Cove 11
Port Noarlunga 11
Edwardstown 13
Flagstaff Hill 13
Morphettville Park 13
Christies Beach 15
O'Sullivan Beach-Lonsdale 15
Marion 17
Aldinga 17
Hackham 17

Does not look to bad although I would speculate that Brighton, Noarlunga and Morphettville Park may need to "delist" a few...

Would be better than the stupid system we have now.

No we wouldn't LGIL. Most we played with in any game this year was 8 from memory. And each of those 4 or 5 players drop a point next year. We have about 33 or 34 players lining up in our A & B grade this Saturday who came out of our juniors.

Personally hurts like hell to favour Brighton but.

Dutchy have seen Brighton in the last couple of weeks and they have looked very impressive, gun man child accross half back better beard than the general. Bombers may surprise

8.00am, Under 14, Morphett Vale V Reynella - Emus by 30 points

9.20am, Under 16, Flagstaff Hill V Brighton - Flaggies by 11 points

10.55am, Under 18, Flagstaff Hill V Cove - Flaggies by 18 points

12.35pm, B Grade, Brighton V Flagstaff Hill - Flaggies by 1 point with shot after siren. Agree with Barry, Brighton's B grade story is just amazing. Time for the run to stop!

2.30pm, A Grade, Happy Valley V Brighton - Valleys by 5 points in a thriller

No bias what so ever....

PS who wears the 'away' guernsey in the A grade? I assume Brighton?
