or the twins could just exit gracefully, and keep their opinions to themselves.
If they are that precious, maybe Netball is for them.
;)

I think 9 premiership medals says that footy is/was the right choice for them ;)

English you speak well.

Seriously though, I do love them but I'll always till the day I die remember how undisciplined and how much they lost by today, they really should have given it up a couple of years ago instead of costing some young Dogs players a game. It's a shame.
I'll never remember their fifty thousand premierships, I'll just remember 88 points loss in a big game.
Centrals would have been better off going into the game short of players without them today, such a shame.

Keep these thoughts handy Wedgie - you might be able to re-use them for big Clint in a week or two...

Dunno, 7 goals in a final indicates to me he might not be past it. ;) ;)
Plus my thoughts of Clint will always involve OTR!

Seriously and sarcasm aside, I'll remember the Gowans for lots of things, lots of great games, lots of hits, lots of aggravation, I'll remember Jame's hit on Schubert and I'll remember my ex slapping Chris in the face and how good he was about it and great to chat to about the SANFL.
There's certainly been a lot more posts on this site over the years because of them, characters are dying out of sport these days and they truly were characters, and characters who could damn well play. I suspected earlier this year they may have gone one season too many and had discussions with Big Phil about it, I think I was right but they're still easily the best recruits to a club since the comp became 2nd tier as far as influence on a club.

Who knows what the content of the comments were anyway. Might not just have been "You're blind etc etc"

Having seen the twins play over many seasons, I was always amazed how they got away with so much. (verbal, cheap shots etc)
Umpires had let them go unabated for seasons without stamping it out. I reckon if some of the experienced umpires of the last decade like Williams & Rowston had shown some balls & brought them into line, that would have filtered through the umpiring ranks & they would never have gotten away with so much crap.
I have no doubt they would have still been the successful & influentual players they have been for CD.
As Boony says it looks as though finally one of the umps wasnt going to cop it. HOORAY!

They probably deserved a better send off from the greater SANFL, but most apart from CD supporters are pretty happy to see the back of them.

And one more thing. There may be a little more to their animosity towards Avon than just their angst over this final.
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!

Yeah in hindsight they should have had a haircut a couple of weeks back, but once again I ask why you would harp on about it in an appreciation thread where two guys have been the consistent in one of the SANFLs greatest achievements.

Not sure that the twins will be bothered by how things "looked" or how opposition fans remember them. They will remember 9 premierships and 17 (IIRC) grand finals, mates, their club and the fans that appreciate them. Hate them if you will, pretend the final game matters more than the rest combined and move on to the next small minded issue you can find.

Finally after 11 pages of this thread Wedgie says it all. Characters. Absolute characters and genuine lads/blokes. True gentlemen off the field when they need to be and typical aussie larrikins around a footy club and the building site. Thanks Chris and Jimmy for the past 12 or so years. Ive spoken to both a few times and still do not know who's who. The sanfl died just a little bit (more) today. Can anyone say there is any entertainers left now? And isnt that what footy is all about? Entertainment? Please dont tell me norwood or west are going to dominate the sanfl with their brand of crap football. Go the Roosters

Good to see that the Boys played a good clean, hard fought, within the spirit and the rules of the game, last hurraaaaaah. Shame the umpires didn;t see it the same way. Enjoy your retirement Ronnie and Reggie.
PS Reckon they would both make Great Umpires. What does an umpy get per game? Cos the building industry is ROOTED !!!

I would be quite happy if the Gowans were appointed to the Match Review / Tribunal - should ensure anything short of murder would be dismissed!
