8 SANFL club "league" teams who sole purpose of existance is to win the SANFL League Premiership.
with
2 AFL reserves sides who do not care about winning, only player development.
is like mixing Grange with Red Cordial .... similar look, much poorer taste.
I don't want tanking in 40% of our games.
Must be avoided AT ALL COSTS.

4. All remaining SANFL clubs allowed a higher salary cap and points allocation to recruit and maintain players and coaches etc.
Just thinking we need to keep the highest standard of footy we can here in SA; if the Crows and Power go to an AFL reserves league or some other crap break away conference what will happen to the quality of SANFL.
IF the only fear is thrashings/lack of $$$ I think the comp would become even in time if not from the onset due to the contrainst mentioned above and sponsors, fans, players would stay involved with a new exciting elite brand of football. Plus whats the alternative, sponsors fall away because the AFL influx is gone and the league no longer even gets TV coverage so whats the point...
Also understand the AFL clubs 'train' together more than the other 8 clubs but hell they are now anyway and 5-8 injuries and they're in strife having to use top up players who are either very fresh (rookies) or from outher leagues (less prepared)
I know Im not the only one to think of something similar to this but could it work?

A top up player listed with an SANFL club - 50K
Make it financially impossible for it to happen - If we let them go ahead anywhere, sponosr will drift to the new club and comp; volunteers will be harder to keep at league clubs - What zone development does any AFL club do - NONE

PhilH wrote:The decision for the Crows and Power is pretty simple for mine
Do THEY think
A) - There is a clear net benefit in having all their surplus player together even if it is a lower level of competition.
or
B) - Is there a clear net benefit is playing in the best competition outside the AFL even if you lose control of your players.
If it is A - play in the SANFL reserves
If it is B - stay as is
If there is no clear benefit either way - stay as it, its the cheapest option.
Don't forget, at the start of each season many (not all) of the new draftees to AFL clubs are not yet up to SANFL league standard, hence why they start in SANFL reserves.
If one of the unsung benefits of the current system that young players are allocated according to their level of ability.
If the Crows / Power have one team what damage would they do the development of a young rookie listed player from the Vic TAC U18 by throwing them straight into an SANFL league game.

This is all about keeping the Magpies alive and in the SANFL, not about the best interests of the SANFL, bye bye Magpies.
Power/Crows/Eagles/Dockers have their seconds sides in the VFL and the AFL to pay all the association and travel costs.
Get back to 8 SANFL clubs, without the Magpies, with no exixsting AFL players, play 3 rounds x 7 games; 1 home, 1 Away and 1 at Adelaide Oval, No byes - your team plays every week, gives every team a chance to play at the home of football in SA (ADELAIDE OVAL) before the final 4 go through to the finals that is in the best interest of the SANFL, its clubs and the supporters.
I am Go Legs, you know it will happen, make it happen.
Cheers,
