sounds like the operator ... are you going from a standing start in too high a gear when you stand on your pedals maybe?

Dedja, i walked the bike to the shop and left the bike in the same gear, because I also put two and two together and got 5. I talked to people at work who had never broken a chain and the guys in the shop and the guy at Megabike said "it can happen". He said that given the gear I was in and being on a flat surface there is no way it should break from the strain.

I really do think I'm jinxed.

Looking forward to it, pumped out 500 kms in the past 7 weeks in prep, using Chandlers Hill as my Willunga Hill practice.

I've had a back niggle the last couple of weeks so not as many kms as I would have liked.

Anyway, picked up my gear today and ready to go.

Well that was 120 km of fun

4:53 ride time, 5:28 total time. Average HR 159 (unfit bastard) average speed was 24.8 km/h but managed to max it out at 70.0 km/h going down Chapel Hill rd....

Did the express way in 32 mins, Willunga Hill in 17:11 the 1st time, 20:12 the second (made the cut off time by 5 mins for the 2nd assault) - not my brightest ever idea I thought as I was repeating the process! Good idea the timing of the splits by BicycleSA.

4880 locals burnt and 8 litres of fluid smashed in the process and gee does my West End Draughts taste good now!! They always do particularly enjoyable after those 120 km.

By the way do you reckon that with the forecast of 32 for today, known by Wed last week, do you think they could have got it started an hour earlier to beat the heat? Also heard from the ambos the bloke on the side of the expressway half way up the climb having CPR and EAR done on him was breathing on his own when get left the scene. So hopefully he is OK.

Well done mate.

I was hoping the fella on the climb on the expressway was OK ... wasn't a good scene. Apparently he is recovering in hospital ... http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/sout ... 6510045075

I did the 65Km route in 2:38 riding time, 3:08 elapsed ... avg speed was 23.0 Km/h with a max speed of 65.9 Km/h on the expressway.

My back played up at around 40Km so I stopped at the Willunga stop for nearly half an hour to try to stop it from seizing.

Did another 12Km from the finish at McLaren Vale to Moana to meet the clan and get my ride home.

4.54 of riding time for me for the 100, was a nice tail wind down all the way down before turning and heading to Willunga, made it up Old Willy OK, was nice to pass a few walking up that were half my weight.

Saw the guy getting CPR and that was pretty distressing, didnt see the guy that came off on Wickams but saw the bike and it was a mess, was a pretty tricky descent with the head wind.

Pretty happy overall, even though I only beat last years time by 5 mins, I think I would have been quicker if it wasnt so hot and windy.

Nice work fellow Snouts, crazy Mods!

I was also thinking out there today that most of these community rides start early but this one doesnt, dont think anyone would complain about a 7.30am start.
