Gillard should go!

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

Nick Minchin? Yeah, the same guy who said WorkChoices didn't go far enough, who tries to dispute the link between smoking and cancer and thinks climate-change is some sort of left-wing scam?

Not sure what relevance that has other than to divert the fact that we paid $25m for the seat that others are saying is connected with their ability re foreign policy.

Most people believe it was money well spent as it results in Australia having a hand in saving thousands, if not millions, of lives around the world.

This is probably the most relevant comment:

Can Australia make a difference? It's a non-permanent seat, and you can't change the world in two years.

I still think France should be replaced by a EU representative

The UN is a toothless tiger that has had blood on its hands for years.
Australia is now a member of that club for the next 2 years. I'm excited.

So what is the point of the UN Security Council? How many people including children have been slaughtered in Syria and what have the UN done about it exactly? Stood there and watched just like they did in Rwanda?

There is a story circulating the swanky Manuka restaurant district in Canberra that Gillard is a hot chance to pull an early election while the polls ar showing her to be out in front of the largely unpopular Tony Abbott. Added to the closing of the gap between Labor and Liberal in the two party preferred, Labors heavyweights are apparently on it like mud on a pig. this is interesting I reckon.

I think if such a scenario were to eventuate it might have a bit more to do with the supposed budget surplus looking unlikely.

Yeah you could be right there G. Although if Swan can't fudge up a Clayton's surplus I'd be amazed. Either way I think the Libs are at best 50/50 now.

You cannot blame the UN or its Security Council for inaction as the fault is in its structure.

The UN and its Security Council has no real power.
It was set up to be a token and toothless Tiger, by the permanent members who have veto power on all decisions.

Action only occurs when none of those permanent members want to veto something put up, which is rare.
If some action is approved, and none of them will provide the money and forces, nothing can happen anyway.
Apart from that, it can only be a wankfest stage for politicians, former politicians, and their peripherals.
