Out Of Left Field Idea for new SANFL marketing ploy

Postby Wedgie » Wed May 09, 2007 8:32 pm

My kids and I came up with something out of left field the other day when listening to JJJ.
The Hilltop Hoods came on and we started trying to sing the Roosters song to the music/rhythm of Hard Road.

I then said to the kids what a great idea to market the SANFL, the SANFL should get the Hilltop Hoods to re-mix each SANFL club song into a hip hop number and use them in marketing. It would get national airplay and notice and Im sure the Hoods wouldn't charge over the top since they're an Adelaide Band. Would be a great way to get some young teenagers to sit up and notice the SANFL.
Their remixes wouldn't take over from the club songs now, just be used for marketing purposes, on ads, perhaps at half or 3/4 time of games and could be released as a mini album which would probably pay for itself as would anything with the Hoods name on at the moment.

I'll probably be called crazy and I know its out there but I thought it was something different and it doesn't hurt to look at new things even if they are extreme!
We should jump in before the AFL thinks of it! :D

Sounds interesting. Maybe something Phil H could help to get the ball rolling as he'd probably have a few contacts. Any idea if the guys from the Hilltop Hoods follow footy, let alone the SANFL?

Which reminds me, they'd really only have to re-mix 8 songs with a slight change made for the 9th.

I think it'll cheapen the SANFL brand IMO - mind you I did reccommend Pram Lady for an ad, so we could do worse I guess.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

It's funny you should have the idea Wedgie, Gothic Blue Girl from doubleblue.org, about two months ago came up with the idea of getting The Hilltop Hoods to remix "It's a Grand Old Flag" to raise revenue and connect with the young'uns. There must be something in that for it to brought up again.
I am still yet to hear a tune by the Hilltop Hoods, and I have just learnt that they are an Adelaide band...are they any good?
I want to be sure we are passing the sacred verses over to competent people before they take the sissors out and re-arrange the thing.

Great idea.

Could take it further and have different musos across genres cover the club songs.

FWIW, well known Adelaide MC Flak once rhymed Frank Spiel with Jim Thiel in a verse...

Excellent idea ... I know at the Parade the oldies would be horrified, but if they aint prepared to accept the changes of a new generation, I think they should be forced to ... It's important for all clubs (incredibly so at ours) to have something to attract the future generations of supporters!

Not certain of the name of the song, but the line goes something like this;

".......Gonna kick back, crack the top off a Pale ale and watch the Double Blues prevail...."
