Quality post right here

1. Southport
2. Warnertown
3. Wandearah
4. Risdon/Strykers

Solly, Props and Germein not far behind.

Most runs - Carroll
Most Wickets - Carroll

Should be an interesting season.

Port Germein are a tough team to get at the moment

Looking through the draw for you strykers b grade team who are currently 2-4
port g
warnertown
wanderah
props
solly
you could win all of them and be 7-4 and good stead at the halfway mark
i think you will win 3-4 of them (warnertown will be a toughy) and be 6-5 and be around the mark

Risdon are struggling but are a quality outfit and will be around the mark- wandies have a young squad but made a good start
south port at full strength are nearly unstoppable
warnertown have the best all round team in b grade- struggle against strykers though

Even when strykers would of been beaten by a backyard womens team the pushed them well

For Strykers to have a chance at finals they need a big win this weekend. Expect them to pull out everything to secure it. They wouldn't want to be 2-5 facing last years premiers.

expect the pitcher to be tossing some skyers at training tonight. Missed opportunities cost the game last Saturday. You can't give the Solly openers 2 chances each in the first few overs and expect to win.

Very long season lads. The telling time for the B grade will be over christmas when people are away and we have the double game weekend in january (i think). Whoever can field a decent team and win a few over this period sets themselves up.

If he wasnt going away again during the season and hadnt missed 3 already Doc Rasheed would have been close for the recorder with the form hes in. I dont think there is a player who can turn a game more in the comp

I agree how good Rasheed is but there are a few teams who have players that can single handedly take games away from opposition and do this consistently

So is there a plan to fix up the state of cricket in Port Pirie? Many teams seem to be struggling to field a full B team each week and with the slow demise of under 17s it ain't gonna get any better. Any insights, comments, suggestions? Am I concerned about nothing? I am freeing up alot of spare time next year in stepping down as pres for another sport and would be happy to help out on a working party to breathe some life back into our sport.

The issue with Pirie cricket for Juniors is the times played and day. Only two under 17 sides this year but they are trying to slot into the Rocky River Association. Not sure how this went. Even when I played Under 17s there was only 3 sides. I think there's just not a lot of interest in it.

Yes junior cricket is certainly on the decline. When i played a few years ago now we actually had 5 teams and it was quite a strong comp with alot of players transitioning to the senior grades.

Worst thing that happened was allowing batsmen to bat a long as they liked. We retired at 50 and all the team basically bowled everyone 3 overs. Kept everybody interested. The last few years youve seen 3 or 4 players do it all so its no surprise kids are losing interest just fielding.

That sounds like a good format and I can see how it would work. It takes the whole "boys club" out of cricket and lets everyone develop. There are alot of things that could be done to make cricket reach the next generation in Pirie.
