How much do D1 clubs REALLY spend on footballers ??????????

Postby turkey slapper » Thu May 10, 2007 9:28 pm

Seems like a bit of a touchy subject on the forum about player payments. Now we all know that the salary cap is 35k, and NOT 1 club in D1 pays over that....................but just for fun, how much do you think D1 clubs are paying their players...... or any other grade for that matter ???????
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?

the big clubs in div 1 i would think would be well over 35k i also hear from around the traps nth haven in div 4 are big spenders CLG in div 7 are paying fair dollars maybe not a little to a quite few players rather alot to just a couple then there are plenty of clubs that pay just for a win eg; wingfiled pay $30 per win to every player sails. west do that unsure of the amount tho.

its really the honour system in div 1 and we know good and well that aint guna hold up clubs may only pay 35k through the books but then there is club dollars , boots , training gear , drink cards etc etc there is always guna be clubs that wrought the system but how are they guna get caught ????? and even if they did get caught saafl would sweep it under the carpet anyway as they have to look after there div 1 clubs like they do year in year out !
you've gota keep on keep'n on .........

There is a few clubs in Div one who should be safe, If you Promise the player $$ but don't actually pay it, do you violate the salary cap?
After all what come back does the player have if he does not get paid the money owed?
1) he either claims it as a second income and by which, loses half of it straight away or at tax time, so he's really not getting the agreed amount, or
2) It is paid under the table and he would have a contract somewhere saying this, but can he come out at the end of the year and say he hasn't been paid and take that club to court, then he would have to declare what he earns and lose most of it anyway, and that's only if he wins the case.
obviously clubs don't want to lose their Marquee players but 2nd tier players or new recruits are on dangerous ground and should tread carefully, especially if they have not seen any money by midway in the season.
Sorry people I only deal in facts!

Having been involved in this for a long, long, long time now you could add another thousand ways and the "Accounting Definitions can be manipulated" and used and smart clubs could totally ignore that number.

An interesting case study would include Blackwood in 2007 \:D/

Is it time to revisit the name of the amateur league ... the word amateur seems to be redundant. Should we go with the SA Metropolitan FL or is there a more suitable title?

Who would ever know , clubs pay players using various ways through sponsors , inner club fund raising & what the club can afford . I would say even some club board members wouldnt know excatly what player payments are and where they are coming from .

Back in my day the good players got $10 per win & the others got a free feed back at the club .
What i dont know about football isnt worth knowing .
