Elizabeth night game last year (the one Centrals lost). Just a couple of opposition supporters mouthing off as the crossed over the mound to (presumably) have a leak in the trees behind us. No alcohol fuelled ugliness (for obvious reasons) though there may have been in a less "family friendly" environment - regardless of the ground.

Well, that's probably because it was obvious that it was an accident. Had you been standing around drinking it someone may have said something.

Jarman brothers 1986-1989 were OK for North

No others as influential come immediately to mind ... for longevity and class over many years the Gowans' edge out Andrew and Darren and must be right up there for all time (I have probably forgotten someone obvious)

Phillis brothers weren't bad for the Bays.....

No point in banning grog when the queue to the bar is 30 blokes long anyway...

Going back to the 70's, the Robran Brothers, a lot forget that Rodney was also a club B&F.

The Gowans are surely the most influential; as they can turn a game both ways just as quickly - most of the other brothers mentioned didn't fly off the handle, costing stupid 25m penalties and free kicks. :D

On the crowds, there have been some really good points raised, particularly Grahaml (I think - can’t be stuffed going back to check) mentioning other crowds spending more energy baiting dogs supporters because they know they will get a reaction. I have been saying similar for years, and certainly believe it to be true.

However... This doesn't excuse mindless violence. Personally, I am sick to death of the minority dogs supporter strengthening the bad name of our supporters. I go to a game and cop the baiting, send a bit back (usually a fast, quick-witted reply creates a friendly banter session which all enjoy and leads to standing with each other and having a few beers together) but some just don't seem capable of this.

I have posted before about smart banter, it was refreshing on Friday night to stand next to a Norwood supporter with a great sense of humour and a quick wit. The 'lady' behind us though, was completely devoid of class, humour and any semblance of integrity. Calling me a f***ing feral, when I yelled out "C'mon Centrals" at the start of the last quarter was ironic and her abusive tirade when all I did was laugh in response was incredibly amusing. At least her partner was visibly embarrassed by her, managing to persuade her to pipe down a little.

I left the game on Friday night thinking that nothing had gone wrong and I was relieved. Turning the radio on Saturday morning made me bloody angry, as we had responded with violence once more. Sadly, I can write this a million times but it is highly doubtful the tools in question can read so it won't make any difference.

As for the flares, the first couple I saw at the footy were funny, now they are almost a ritual and quite honestly it's time to grow up - if it is you Apache, leave them at home and just watch the footy mate.

Some good stuff here, but the outcome we would all like to see (I hope) is for these groups, and we must admit the problem lies in small groups, perhaps 5-10 people forming small but none the less fearful groups.

I have seen groups like this at most SANFL grounds, however, some of these groups do have intent, not just the intent to go to the footy with their mates and have a good time, but sinister intent.

The clubs that these groups are involved with need to be more proactive in identifying these people, banning them from all SANFL grounds, and if this fails (I admit it would be hard to keep photo ID's of all offenders, but hey,the EPL can do it) then security/police presence must be upgraded at the games that involve these clubs. At the cost of the clubs, not the SANFL.

For as Mark Ducker has said earlier "it was over in 30 seconds drama queen",for this to be acceptable to him or any one else is ridiculous.Whether it be a 30 second or 30 minute fight,no one wants to go to the footy and witness or worse still become an innocent victim to the moronic behaviour of a small minority.

Ban 'em.

Flares, what do people get out of lighting a flare? Must be like when Homer see's that dog with a fluffy tail, easily pleased, very easily pleased.

Id say Peter and Trevor Obst would be up there. Peter a 6 time premiership player and Trevor a 4 time plus Magarey Medallist.

THe Williams boys went around alright as well, although they werent really together for most of their career.

Was acceptable to the security staff who did their job perfectly booney. Never said the fight was an ideal situation I just said it was a non-event. scuffled went for 30 seconds with those involved kicked out. Nobody outside of the fight got hurt. Everybody went back to watching footy. Just like when the to North fans had a fight last year with each other.

More than happy for both the dogs and legs supporters involved to be banned.

Oh well it has been able to detract attention away from the legs poor performance so far in 2007. Which Im sure is what the severely frustrated legs fans want.

On the flares. There was drunken legs fan who collapsed on coopers hill in the last quarter. When we went to his assistance and asked if he wanted a hand up. HE replied i would but my hands are full of fire crackers . He had like 5 of these little things in his hands.

So are flares childish but fire crackers cool ????

Disagree actually. The ball player has to be protected and if sliding with your knees into an opponents ribs is condoned we won't have too many people playing in years to come. Barta is a undisciplined liabilty in my book which is irritating as he's one of the more talented members of Norwod's current team.

Hey SMAC what would a fifty year old Chief be doing with flares ??????

Doggaahs's and Apache's comments were tongue in cheek a bit of a laugh, i thought readers would of realised this !!!

I am quite pissed off from what i have read from posters on this site that Kermit Kornes and Klown Kuntingham have again blamed Doggy supporters for violence.

These two KLOWNS have a hidden agenda it seems to me that these two clowns seem to blame Central fans for any violence at any game, can it be a hint of jealousy on Kermits behalf because his club the Bays have underachieved over the last 70 years ?????

For violence to occur it takes two parties not one, i can recall 2 or 3 years ago when i was at the parade, when the Norwood skinheads ran amok harassed Doggy supporters with children and after the game smashed shop windows down the Parade, not much of a hulla baloo about that, oh sorry Kermit it must of been the Central supporters.

From what i have heard over the last few years, when other teams play at the Parade there is always some sort of incident, therefore i think it is not Central supporters but possibly Norwood fans or non footy followers causing mischief, so really it is the Norwood Footy Clubs responsibility to fix the problem at the Parade and not buck pass all its problems to visiting clubs and supporters.

My solution is quite simple do not play night games at the Parade end of story.

What i want to know is , why is there always trouble on COOPERS HILL? Maybe thats the problem, but nothing is spoken about that because it is named after a sponsor. Every time i have been to COOPERS stadium the only trouble is on COOPERS HILL. go figure.

Apparently they're considering renaming it Coppers Hill.

Is it really a hill - or more of a terrace (a hill normally has grass on it).

When it comes to violence at night games, what I've noticed is that there seems to be issue after issue when it comes to Norwood at night, yet (so far), there's only been one or two issues at night games at Elizabeth, and there's been minimal problems at Adelaide Oval. Maybe it has to do with the compact nature of Coopers Stadium, where you're more crammed in than the more open arenas of Adelaide Oval and Hamra Homes Oval that possibly causes the issues at Coopers.

All up though, there was only one real incidient at the ground, and while that's one too many, I thought that the rest of the match was relatively calm crowdwide.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

I like how Kris Grant blamed the SANFL for having it as a night match, does he think it only gets dark on Fridays and not Saturdays at Elizabeth?
He couldn't be serious surely? :?

Yep, and that's a good thing, it shows that you're not biased, just that you have no idea.

PS I thought there was nothing in the Sporn one too but he got a game so nothing would suprise me as I probably have no idea too.
