Reynella went through the same thing this year and still played finals...Brighton will always be competitive, it isnt all doom and gloom down there.

Well said DTH its about time brighton gave some of the b grade a chance in the A grade. IMO they should have been doing it for the last two years the talent has been there but the fair go hasn't. this will be the only reason they will take a small step backwards. Your right the players leaving are past it now or they were in it for the coin. The big losses are rogers, brookman' and phillips I would think.

What a load of bollocks they should of been doing it the last 2 yrs, if they had they would not of played in 2 Grand Finals & collected 1 premiership.
Taking a small step backwards because of it is bullsh!t aswell, the small step or should i say the big backward step this year is getting rid of their premiership coach, this will now give you your wish of seeing B graders getting their opportunity providing they are ready as the experienced players have all left in droves because of the pathetic decision by the club. These so called players that " you say " should of been playing the last 2 years will find out just how tough it is.

Boohoo Brighton.

You'd think they are the first club to lose players.

DHT u obviously haven't been involved in a country footy club before?? Alot of country teams struggle for yrs and yrs and unfortunately don't have the numbers in the local area not to recruit to be competitive. The money spent on imports does help the community, the community thrives on the success of the local footy and netball during winter. When the locals teams are winning people come from everywhere to the town and everyone travels from town to town supporting our local teams, It's what we live for. we have been lucky in the past and recruits we have brought in have given back to the club by sticking around for a few years and become part of our community. It's upto the club to make sure u get these type of players and they are never a majority, would only ever be a handful. We also have alot of great juniors but lack experienced players and players that have been there and done that and will be there when the going gets tough to help the young fellas. Brighton had success a couple years ago and u can't tell me every player that played in that premiership was brought up through the juniors? U mentioned the players u lost were pasted it or in it for the money so your club obviously pays a price too maybe not at the same rate we do but players we bring in usuall have to sacrafice there whole wk end to travel and be apart of our club. I bet u would not have won that premiership without these players and now they have taken off to several other clubs that hope they can bring their experience and help bring success to their local country teams.

Wouldn't be a close relation of yours would it Hairy Cat?

I have a few friends out at Townies... I think they have recently started preseason and was wondering if there was any exciting news?

Heard they have picked up a few ex-players from a few years back. Stubbie, Hearn and I forget the other name quoted.

Heard that a few have also rocked up in a fitness level better suited to NFL defensive linesman.......While a couple of average players have returned, 6/7 quality players who had the year off and/or played country have signed with SAAFL clubs. Far greater loss than inclusions thus far, Townies will do well to win more than they lose.

Lucky they have 3 months to work on there fitness levels I guess...

You say "6/7 quality players who had the year off and/or played country have signed with SAAFL clubs" if they had last year off why would Townies be any worse off? They weren't even there last year???

due to the lack of new recruits, esp anyone over 6ft 1/2...... Heard they were banking on most of those that signed in SAAFL returning, or at least that was what I heard being used to try and recruit new players. Also worse off due to ruck rule changing and in turn eliminates current ruckman that can't get off the ground. He needs 3 yrs to work on his fitness

Well it's only mid December and many blokes don't bother with training before Christmas, so there's still plenty of time for possible recruits.

I know they are bringing in the new ruck rule for the AFL but are we certain the various amatuer leagues will bring it in also?

From my understanding, this ruck rule is the Matty Primus rule, that has been in the AFL for a few years, whereby a ruckman can not walk over the line and stick arm/backside out preventing the other ruckman from jumping.

Not the new rule the AFL is implementing. Reigning & very suprising, B & F winner with the helmet is in strife.....

"Well it's only mid December and many blokes don't bother with training before Christmas"

This is the difference between serious/finals bound and succesful teams to those that make up the numbers, with the only hope is a flag when SFL moves to 2 divs.

Even more so when it's your senior players rocking up in that condition........far from the best example

Have to agree with hairy_Cat.....if the 6/7 you talk about were not there last year that shouldn't impact 2013 performance compared to 2012!

As for the ruckman that can't get off the ground.....the 2012 rookie ruckman outjumps anyone else in the league + big Marsh back on the track + the two 6'7" ressie ruckman from last year + two ruckmen from the 2012 U18's with huge potential, chances are big Sars can work his wares from a key position in 2013. Not too many CHF's or CHB's will be pleased trying to jump over or get around him :)

Couldn't dissagree more, they would be licking their chops at the sight of him at CHB, only have to lead for 5-10m and you'd have 2-3 metres advantage. Even big Goldy would outrun him and that's saying something. He'd blow up within 15 mins at CHF unless that position means running a up and down the line of square. I'll believe the 2 x 6'7'' ruckman when i see them.....

Each had one or two games in A's in 2012. Are you suggesting they won't be at EFC in 2013?

He has given EFC 8 years of loyalty and been a great player. Did think he would go back to Tumby but.
