Great fight back lead by a great carnival 100 to Borgus (103) great way to finish a carnival and surely an all australian spot any 100 is a good innings but at this level that's a fantastic effort. Ash mcdonald again very solid with a nice 57 then some clean hitting late by Mistroni (35) to get us the 240 mark and after being 2/4 I couldn't of asked for much more.

Would done Hutchy. Its been great the ball by ball commentary. Some tight games that just havent swung our way i guess, but thats cricket.
Seems like it has been a very strong showing by SA and you should all be proud as punch for the great effort. A tonne and a 5/fa from some of the junior burgers is also encouraging.

Re: Pidge and the 3 jacks - he has tried that one before on me. Useless. Tell him he needs to empty his nuts too.

Good luck this game.

Ditto that. Appreciate your support Giggsy. 8)

Still shaking my head about returning with a 1-4 win-loss record. Just does not do this group any justice, but if you're looking for sporting justice, play another sport I reckon. ;) The close losses have been just devastating for this playing group and they will burn in our guts for a long time.

Aside from the 7 blokes who've toured previously, the first time tourers now know how hard 5 days of cricket is mentally, even moreso than physically. As I said to the guys after yesterday's match, losses highlight the deficiencies in one's game at this level far more than a win and the bottom line is we weren't good enough when the key pressure moments presented themselves and when you break a game down into maybe 30-50 of those moments across a day's play, wins are built on winning the majority of those key moments and put simply we didn't.

History shows a reasonably high turnover of players from one Carny to the next, but if we can have representation from the vast majority of the 2012 side, we will go into the 2014 tournament in good shape, particularly with 5 very good young players that still qualify for U23's.

Well done to Dutchy for leading the side well and with great passion. Congratulations to Borgy and Pistol on their richly deserved baggy greens.

Happy New Year SA Footy forumites.

Which team was the overall winner GH??

Out of curiosity, how many players did you have to pick the squad from?

Southern Districts were the eventual winners. Had numerous good bats in their side with plenty with District Experience and included a former Victorian State 2nd XI player.

I've only experienced the carnival on 2 occasions but the standard of this one was clearly higher than what was on at Sydney in 2010. The combined side we played on Day 4 had 2 Melbourne First Grade players, one of which trained with the Aussies in the lead up to the Boxing Day Test as they thought he bowled similar to Sri Lanka's Left Arm orthodox

Southern Districts went 5-zip. We lost to them on Day 1 by 12 runs. The competition was as even as I can remember, despite 5-zip sounding quite dominant. They weren't, but won key moments during several of their matches and performed under pressure, which is obviously the key to winning close matches. They ended up with 4 of the 12 players selected in the All-Aust team, including the Neil Moore Trophy winner, Ben Dix (22 poles), for Player of The Championships and former Victorian Bushrangers squad member Matthew Goodier (218 runs - 109 on Day 5).

I can tell you that of the players who made themselves available at some stage prior to the Championships, the following missed out on selection ;

Zach Hancock - Enfield Uniting
Nick Scaife - Central Mission
Geoff Herbert - Fitzroy
Matt Sandford - Fitzroy

Paul Wright (Central Mission) withdrew himself from selection a day before selection night due to personal reasons, Mick Hawse (Adelaide Lutheran) pulled out due to other committments and unfortunately Jeff Clarke (Rose Park) and Andrew Wehrman (Rose Park) were unavailable due to injury. Several other Div 1 players were sounded out, including Adelaide Lutheran's Matthew Nitschke, Fin Borgas, Adrian Gaunt and Matthew Steadman, Josh Vines (Para Vista) and Lee Mills (NEK) but for various reasons they were unavailable for selection. Association trainings (all 7 of them) were open to all registered C&CCA players.

Thought I would do a review of the carnival as I'm still recovering from breaking boonies VB record on the plane ride home

S. Holland (c) - C, inspirational leader, should be a shoe in for captain next carnival no matter what form
J.Smith (vc) - C, not quite the impact that he should of had
A.MacDonald (vc) B, the people's choice as VC for next carnival
T.Hodson C, should of made more runs
J.McLeod B, bout time someone stepped up to be an all rounder
J. Borgas B+, pity he can't score runs this season for his club like he did
M.Spry D+, fallen from grace, not the bowler he was, needs to put on some muscle maybe
A.Balding D, broke down, scored no runs, not many wickets..... B grade beckoning for rest of season?
P.Atkins B, surprise bowler, but needed to score more runs, but worthy
A.Harris C+, only wicketkeeper in the comp that would of been capable to take the gloves
M.Trainos C, no impact really, not sure if he's up to it
M.Mestroni D, first and last carnival
A.Gully C-, thought he was a pretty good bowler, not anymore

I'll chime in with an outsiders view then of the performances of the lads my the scorebook without being there

S. Holland (c) - Natural leader, spear headed the attack and perhaps bowled without much luck
J.Smith (vc) - Quality bat that made several starts and recovered SA a couple times after being 1 for not many, lacked that big score that he is more than capable of!!
A.MacDonald (vc) - The mascot of the team, class bat, served well!!
T.Hodson - The other half of the recovery from SA being 1 for 0, harsh assessment that he didn't make enough runs, batted consistently throughout the week and perhaps unlucky to miss out on All Australian selection!
J.McLeod - Good signs for a young lad, will only benefit from the experience
J. Borgas - Class act, consistent all week, say no more!!
M.Spry - Probably didn't have the impact he would have hoped but certainly wasn't disgraced, another learning curve for him
A.Balding - Fair surprise he didn't claim more poles, solid bowler but not much to show stats wise, perhaps another luckless bowler
P.Atkins - Another surprise to play such a pivotal role with bowl, tidy and consistent all week, dangerous bat aswell when firing so surprised he didn't get a few more runs
A.Harris - Quality kid, no big impact runs wise but another to benefit from the learning experience.
M.Trainos -May not have had a huge impact stats wise but will benefit from the experience
M.Mestroni - Few good digs down the order but struggled opening
A.Gully - Always a decent bowler

Feel free to rip me a new one but I wasn't there so outsiders view!!
