Bit hard for Tone to do "push the flesh" at all the bushfires, he's a NSW FRS volunteer, so he is probably out fighting a fire rather than getting in the way looking for cheap votes.

I would be hesitant to call the independents irrelevant given they hold the balance of power in Federal Parliament at present. You can argue the pros and cons of this but either way it seems pretty damn relevant to me.
