PAP smears in prison bars

Postby Pseudo » Tue May 15, 2007 1:15 pm

Just wondering what the Magpies fans think about the PAPs planning to line up in the prison bars jumper. If I was a Port fan (God forbid) I'd be annoyed at having those johnny-come-latelys in my team's jumper.

Mixed emotions really... how dare they try and wear a "real" Port jumper.. you cant have heritage when your 10 years old...

on the other hand...

If it pisses Collingwood off... why not??

let's respect the Powers heritage. F#*@ knows I can't stand them or the Magpies but let's face it they were born from the Port Adelaide Magpies club unlike the Crows who were born to represent the SANFL as a whole so as a neutral supporter I feel they have every right to wear the black & white prison bars. Afterall it is back to the 70's for god sake what did Port wear in the 70's it was the blsck & white prison bar strip.

Well said eaglesHL and in this case Port have every right to insist on wearing it no matter who you follow. I still can't see the logic of some of the final agreement conditions from what I read. They can possibly wear it again in future heritage rounds but only at home but only if the opponent is not Collingwood. Does it matter if they wear it "away" if they are not playing Collingwood FFS???

I Think that Power should were there own heratige jumper they have had 10 jumpers in 11 years. 1 should be able to be used as a heratige jumper. they dont need to were our black and white prison bars.
The problem with Barcelona is that I like fish and chips but they had to turn it into calamari and patatas

I agree with EHL. The Victorian representative teams in the AFL are the traditional clubs that made up the old VFL, which IMO was the Victorian equivalent to the old SANFL. It shits me that just because Port come from SA they have to observe a heap of clauses to satisfy a Vic club, based purely on where they came from. When Port were denied their Magpie guernsey in the AFL, I took it as a snub to all SANFL clubs.

*sigh*
When Port Adelaide signalled their intention to join the AFL, there was already a Black & White team called the Magpies, who quite rightly objected.
Therefore, Port were required to come up with an alternate nickname & colours if they wanted to join, & as they still wanted to join after those conditions were placed, they came up with the alternate "Port Power" & a jumper consisting of black, teal, white & silver (although silver was no immediately introduced).

Perhaps theri you should take it as a snub that Port wished to turn it's back on the SANFL- not the AFL for insisting the conditions they joined under are upheld....

It's irrelevant that the team is now nick-named the Power and have teal in the colours. The heritage of the PAFC is the B&W prison bars and it's heritage round. Throw the standard guernseys (and sometimes the colours) out and have some fun with it.

FGS, West Coast are wearing the original WA State-of-Origin jumper. It's black and gold .... not their original colours ..... it's Richmond's colours .... West Coast agreed to not use the traditional state colours when they joined ..... yawn .... yawn .... yawn .....

Heritage round is a nostalgic throw-back - one for the fans. Everyone take a chill pill about it, including Eddie.

you're quoting me out of context- my original reply is directed at a statement made by therisingblues.

I understand there was already a team nicknamed the Magpies. Fair enough Port had to come up with another nickname. If Port wanted to wear the Collingood jumper (and god only knows why anyone would want to wear the current abomination they mascaraed around in) then i can inderstand Collingwood objecting. If Port wanted to wear Black and White against Collingwood i can also understand Collingwood's issue. I can't, however, work out the reason why Collingwood care if Port wear the prison bar guernsey whenever they like. So what if it is the same colours the design is completely different. As has been pointed out no other club has such insecurities as to not allow another to wear the same colurs providing they have a different design. I really hate sticking up for Port but i can't help but feel Collingwood have some sort of inferiority complex as to insist no other club wears Black and White.

Personally i'd like to See Port wear the prison bars every week just so there is the chance to see that guernsey lose.

And how many teams wear Blue and White? No problem there.
Weren't the Crows colours the same as the Fitzroy Lions when they joined? What is it with Collingwood?
And I am not takng it as a snub that those conditions were upheld, but rather, those conditions were introduced in the first place.

something the VFL/clubs at the time failed to address correctly (imo)
therisingblues wrote:Weren't the Crows colours the same as the Fitzroy Lions when they joined? What is it with Collingwood?
did Fitzroy object? No. Hence the AFL had no need to act- also, the Crows weren't trying to call themselves the Lions either.
therisingblues wrote:And I am not taking it as a snub that those conditions were upheld, but rather, those conditions were introduced in the first place.
Collingwood were within their rights to protect their image in a world exceedingly corporatised.
Again, Port joined the AFL knowing they could not wear Black & White & be known as the Magpies- end of story.
