i honestly believe they will take time with roach, but yes it will be interesting how they go with a ex suburban coach but then again he did have a couple of years at pultney and was a teacher

ROFLMAO! All of you should learn not to comment on things about which you know nothing about. No Uni players are helped out with employment any more than any other club helps its players with employment. No one has free University tuition, and no one has their children put through private schools - these claims are pure and utter lunacy. The only financial benefit our 'A' graders receive is sponsorship of their subs - about $150! As for 'poaching' younger players, we're about the only club that DOES NOT poach players, it is all word-of mouth and club reputation. We may be the only team never to have been relegated from Division 1, but it is the lower grades that have made the club great.

Roach's game plans are out dated and will be picked to pieces by the ex league players now involved in coaching roles in Div 1 . Sorry to say Mark but i predict Uni to go backwards rather then " 1 step further " with Roach at the helm . The days of warming up with indian file laps followed by ball work in lanes and finishing with circle work are long gone .

This forum is a joke , Adelaide uni arent a club, not like all the others that run the junior programs. Like bradman said thay are just like the cricket club, poach players!! ok if it is through word of mouth but i know Cricketers like paul rofe , nathan adcock carl hooper while he was here for cricket, and footballers like tommie drugs, graham kellet etc wouldnt be playing for free, cmon, please, the club might not be paying them but i am sure the president s men would be giving out golden handshakes...

a junior footy programme does not make a club. Fair enough if the current school footy system was not in place it would work its how clubs like uni and the OS clubs survive.

where do the country kids or interstaters who move here for study meet new people and make friends????? FYI there is a uni team made up of entire country guys who are studying the ag courses and they play in C4. my hatred of uni stems from the cricket side where they are arrogant and a bunch of old blokes but those blokes weren't too bad and its like a separate club within a club.

let's look at your argument - rofe, adcock and hooper are/were all paid by the saca necessitating no payment from any club - does gillespie get paid by adelaide? did blewett by kensington?
many players come to uni after just missing out on league/reserves and a few years ago, uni acted as a sort of feeder club to/from north adelaide (also there was the peter simmons connection), just like jarman advises players to play for gaza, some were advised to play for uni. - however none are paid but like any football club connections are built. I'm sure people also help each other around the club you are involved in.
Martin studied arts and law at university so why not play there?

Why would a club based around a tertiary institution (post age of 17) get involved in junior clubs that correctly are based around where people live? University could organise junior teams through its past players but surely, kids deserve the chance to make friends in their local area?

How does not having junior teams make the players of the 8 senior teams any less a part of a club? There are people playing together in teams, there's a sense of history, there are homegrounds, there are people willing to voluntarily devote sizable chunks of time to make sure that the club potters along. There's a sense of community - what boxes have not been ticked.

The other point that arises is that we can't expect people to stay in the same place all of their lives - as much as we would like them to. People grow and wish to do different things; more power to them I say.
