He has indicated he will probably go back to Salisbury North - or stay at Athelstone - this year but we are having 1 last chat with him. Any thoughts on him would be appreciated as the money side is pretty high.

what club is this?, because after speaking to chris himself he said he hasn't spoken to any country clubs at all.

Ahh old Travis "Kevin Bartlett" White. I'm yet to see him pass a ball to anyone when anywhere near the goals!

Most of the clearances are for Aquinas College students. The Club has a relationship with Aquinas College since its inception which is embedded in its constitution. These guys have always formed an important source of players for the Club in addition to kids coming from the school.

They did Shrek, for 5-6 yrs until Iggies came back in and offered extras that we couldn't (money towards Aquinas fees I think). We still have a lot of ex-Aquinas guys playing footy, and girls playing netball. Disappointing to lose that connection but these things happen. We still have a lot of country kids coming into the club though.

Iggies have always had a relationship although probably let it go for a while and have tried to reinvigorate it recently. The Club has struggled to get these guys to play with them in the recent past when other clubs have been willing to pay them. The Club certainly isn't covering any of their university fees and has really been pushing club culture as the primary reason for joining the Club.

Fair enough. I remember a few Aquinas boys playing for Edwarstown too. Big Lenny was one who went on to the Brisbane Lions after that.

I guess you're always at risk of losing a stream of players from a Uni college I a new kid is tied up with another club and his mates follow. We've tried picking up a few guys from Lincoln College but its tricky because there's been a bit of a hiatus in players coming from there.

Not Uni fees, but boarding fees at Aquinas. I have been told by an ex-Aquinian and Iggies player that Iggies have money set aside as Scholarship type money for some Aquinas students, as well as a money award for the student voted "Best Sports Person of the Year" at Aquinas. Add to this Iggies providing kegs/beer/money for Aquinas functions and you have a pretty good deal. We were told that we couldnt even go up to the college to chat with potential players because "Walkerville gives nothing to Aquinas like Iggies do".

You win some, you lose some.

Looking at the list of players heading to Old Iggies, should mean they will be quite strong this year. Having played them in div 2 last year and also having played with a lot of the players heading to Iggies, I would say at least 4 or 5 on that list that are going there from Walkerville would slot into the A grade there. Murdoch, Easson (last years div 2R medallist), Tyler Martin (from Henley, previously at Walkies), Crowley probably.... I would think Old Iggies having also dropped a division will be top 3 this year.

The scholarship is a memorial fund named for an Aquinian ex-Iggies player from the 80's. Has been around for 7-8 years before boys started going back to Iggies. Fund doesn't necessarily go to a footballer or indeed a male student.

A Joe Pedler sales pitch is more to the reason....

Weir and Tyler Martin best in trial on Saturday - fruition??

How much greener does he want the pasture to be?
Has been looked after extremely well by the club over the years. It'd be a big slap in the face if he did leave.
But you're right WW, prob just up to his old tricks ;)
