Is he playing against Kersbrook this week? Would be worth the admission if it wasn't already and hopefully he lines up on Paul James

Birdwood Vs Kangarilla - Will be a long first Trip for Kangarilla I think Birdwood Up by over 10 Goals.
Sedan Cambrai Vs Macclesfield - Has the recuiting by Macclesfield been worth It, I still think they will be too strong for Sedan and get up by over 20 goals +
Kersbrook Vs Echunga - Lots and Lots of OUT's for Echunga I can see this one blowing out. Kersbrook by over 10 goals .
Nairne Bremer Vs Gumeracha - Might be the closest one of Round but see Nairne just getting up over Gums in this 1st Round by 5 goals.

You were close on the margin of the Echunga v Kersbrook game just not the winner!!!

Will be old news, but what happened to Callington/United this year. Are they still in existance?

Some fairly interesting results there, but I guess it's only Round 1.

SC would be disappointed with their result, as would Gum.

Yeah I'm sure most coaches would be very happy winning Rd 1 instead of the Grand Final
Wonder if Echunga will unfurl the Rd 1 flag next game ?

Speaking of Echunga can anyone explain how they got the HFL to give them 5 extra points recently
considering they played in the Grand Final last year
perhaps some of the lower clubs could have used the points to improve their position

That's very true big fella and while the Demons are very happy with the win I am certain the brookers would rather have won on Saturday than lost. Perhaps all the pre season bullshit about Echunga on here and in the courier will leave some red faces. I look forward to Goldy's garbage in the courier this week....

Yep Kersbrook prefer to win the last game of the season preferred to the first one  Perhaps Bessani has got the season mixed up? Although Bessani has done well to accrue 5 extra points to accommodate the likes of serial club swapper Marc Cox.

Brookers had a dirty day with no bench before half time and with key players injured. Nicholson (knee), Parasiers (ankle) and MM Miller (Hammy) before Miller had to go back on when Lee Hughes broke his arm in the 3rd quater.

Game was seriously half in standard compared to last year's GF.

Yeah there were quite a few injuries in the game. Definitely wasn't the standard of the GF last season but that is expected being round one.
Yes finals are won in September but what do you want Echunga to do, not play until then? Every game is important and you play to win whether round one or the GF, i'm sure Kersbrook would have been playing to win.
It's funny how quick supporters who lose will comeback with "Grand Finals aren't won in April", but if they win they will be shouting it from the roof tops saying how they are going to win it all again this season!

It goes without saying that both teams would have been playing to win. Whilst Echunga were the better team on the day i am sure that none of them espically Bassini are getting ahead of themselves. They would still be stinging from last years result and whilst the win on Saturday would have helped the only real way to redeem themselves would be to win the one that counts this year.
Kersbrook would have wanted to win but at the same time losing on the weekend would not have worried them. They are a crafty bunch who would have learnt what they wanted to and will have a plan to put into place in September.

Lets put things in perspective; it's round 1 and there are 7 other sides in the comp. if reports are correct both sides were underdone and need to improve so lighten up.

For the record 18 GF players are no longer with Echunga is my report and their best senior colts also left so should the HFL award mediocracy by brining traditionally strong clubs down so ultimately the standard of the comp drops? I believe all clubs have been awarded plenty in their time not only this year; just saying

I am not sure I quite agree with this statement - yes a couple of the lads who have gone elsewhere ( one of whom played B's for TV and couldn't make their best players.... $200 well spent there Hughesy!!) may be better known around the traps, however they couldn't make it at Sturt so they are clearly not that much better (if better at all) than the few who have come up this season. This despite also being offered a game and most likely $$ at other clubs. They have stayed on because they prefer to play at Echunga. They may not get the "media" other lads at Echunga and other country div teams get, but I know who I would rather have!

The lads Bassani has attracted to the club will be an asset. Bass is no fool, he would have learnt from last seasons GF loss... and despite the losses of players, be planning and working towards a successful year.

Agree with other posts re round 1 vs GF.... but you gotta start somewhere for the season and a win is better than a loss. Long winter of footy ahead, lets enjoy it!

Sometimes a kid has to leave to realise that the grass isn't always greener and perhaps they aren't as good as what their Dad or they think!
Hopefully those boys return to the club in the near future.
