Basically as a species we have pushed evolution pretty well as far as it can go in terms of head size versus body (and therefore pelvis size).
The next step in the evolution of the human brain may require a reversion to a less safe for the foetus option like the Marsupials.
That is, an earlier stage less developed foetus goes into a nice stretchy pouch to develop further.
With our levels of overpopulation we can accept a few more losses between the birth canal and the pouch.

The alternative is the development of affordable artificial womb technology, giving "funded child care" a new meaning...
