Well done JR. You must have made plenty on the bays over the years.

well i asked the ? & after today at noarlunga you'd have to say barring a big run with injuries they'll make the 5 but realistically they are still well behind the top 3 teams (central, wwt & north)
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Yeah you're probably right but we're doing it with kids that have played less than a dozen games behind them. The future suddenly looks a whole lot more rosy.

Sturt today were good, pretty good but today you would have to question the quality of the opposition or the lack of it. :(

Cant say i've paid sturt much respect this year, but they impressed me today.

Huge turnaround from the team that south spanked 3 times last year.

Don't want to get carried away but the possibility of finals footy is starting to look quite realistic. But...the teams we've knocked off aren't exactly those at the top of the table. Let's see next weeks game to gauge how much of a real deal we are. Regardless of whether we do or do not play finals the signs are there that Sturt has a squad together that will develop very nicely over the next few seasons... Good times ahead! The boys looked pretty pumped about making amens for last years thumpings...

Had this discussion with a fellow Sturt fanatic during the 2nd quarter at Noarlunga this arvo. We liken Sturt 2007 to Sturt 1963/64 - eg a squad of virtually unkown but exciting and skilful youngsters who are yet to physically develop mixed in with some experienced players - all being coached by someone new at the club. Jack Oatey was then able to improve Sturt 63/64 (who won 25 games out of 42) into a side that then played in 6 consecutive grand finals. Of course he didn't have to worry about the AFL poaching his players like Rick McGowan will have to, but there is currently a new era being created at Unley....

With yesterday's result, I'm now a believer: Sturt is the real deal (tm). Sturt's results are finally reflecting the calibre of its list and it is no longer weak, really weak, the weakest team I've seen all year.

That mantle is now worn by the Bays

Pseudo...we have harvested 5 wins from the bottom 4 sides, we have been well and truly hammered by the three sides immediatley below us. I am a believer that the real deal (looks like a bad quote from a "B"grade martial arts movie when you put it in bold) tag belongs to Central, North and the Eagles, with the Redlegs banging away on the door. Sturt's real deal tag is just a euphimism invented by Bays' fans to elevate the status of the side that kept them out of the five last year.

IMO ;)

Not sure whether STURT are the real deal but they have improved and congrats to Rick for getting them to play better footy. Lets be honest though, its a 3 team comp and realistically NORTH and WWT are fighting it out to see who gets to play the DOGS when it counts. :P :P

Well said G - Sturt have obviously improved and good luck to them but the main reason they are sitting second currently is because of the absurd SANFL draw so far this year. It is good to see that most Sturt fans are rational enough to know that judging by their posts on this and other similar forum topics.

I think we are definitely realistic about our chances against the Dogs but they don't seem to have the hoodoo over us that Norwood and the Eagles have had lately. If, and it's a big IF, the Dogs are going to drop a game it's not completely inconceivable that it be to Sturt!

This is only guesswork (of course!) but isn't Sturts last win was the 02 GF?

If that is correct, I reckon 5 years creates a hoodoo. Perhaps we need to define the term hoodoo to ensure correct use?

There was another in 04 we lost at Adelaide when it seemed like it was -5 degrees. We've won the last 6, 10 of the last 11 and 16 of the last 18. Haven't lost at Unley since round 17 1985. It's only 7 games, which is why I usually say 20 years, but this sounds like a hoodoo to me!
