I stayed a week with friends who lived in Davoren Park a few years ago.
I felt a bit uncomfortable popping down to the local to buy some white wine in the evening.
There wasn't much choice either...

Was driving a mate up to Elizabeth to watch the Tigers get pumped a few years back, and he commented along the way "you know when you're up the north side of town: the bottle shops all advertise pre-mix spirits instead of beer and wine"

That fits with what I saw dominating the shelves - the drink for those who only like the flavour of lolly water, but also like getting drunk...

My mate who lived up there was a sort of inverse snob from the UK.
His father wanted to send him to Eton and then Oxford after his prep years (like his own education) but he refused to go.
He went to Uni in Yorkshire then moved to NZ before coming to Oz, and lived in Rosewater before Davoren Pk.
(Dad would have also disliked his moving to "the colonies".)

Once you got past that peculiarity he was a good guy and made at home a very nice Rum.

Technically you can't kill any native animal, but no judge would convict you for killing a brown snake on your own suburban property.

That was my real concern when I thought it was a baby snake - Where's mumma? Thankfully I don't have to worry about that and can go back to channelling my energies to warding off the Drug Dealers and Home Invaders
