David Clarke just reported for striking(?). Commentators seem to think he'll get a few weeks.

Eagles 8.3 13.4 16.6 21.12 (138)
South 2.2 4.4 7.9 11.13 (79)

Scorers:
Eagles: Grocke 4.1, Batsanis 3.0, Symmons 2.4, Treeby, McKenzie 2.0, Passador 1.2, Klun, Cooper, P.Fiacchi, Vince, Dabrowski, Lomas 1.0, Salter 0.1, Rushed 0.5. (I missed 1.0 for Eagles)
South: Archard 3.0, Parry 2.0, Smith, Boyd, Iljcesen 1.1, Sampson, Handby 1.0, McGrath, Maddox, Warren 0.1, Rushed 0.5. (I missed 1.2 for South)

Quarter Lengths:
1st: 30.21
2nd: 28.02
3rd: 26.57
4th: 28.01

7.2 to 0.1 might as well have been game over in the 1st, but I still think South are better than today. They just went missing in the first 2 and a bit quarters.

Eagles best:
Grocke - took about 4 marks in the opening 15 minutes in the match, and played well all day except for the 15 minutes in the third that South dominated.
P.Fiacchi - what you might call a ball magnet, was all over the place finding the footy
Jarrad - not only is he quick, he is also a great close in player, very desperate for the ball
McKenzie - ever reliable, taking marks all over the ground
McGregor - a general at centre half back, I'll welcome every game he play for us
Batsanis - the classic opportunist crumbing forward
Lindsay - the most agile I have seen him, not bad for a big man at 31
and you could name about another 5 or 6 others. Even Passador who had an off day, set up 3 goals with handballs, worked hard when the football was loose. Then in the last quarter he took a few grabs at CHF, on Warren(!).

I'd probably only find Archard, Smith and Carlile the best for South, Clarke was reported for a hit on Symmons. This I think is about the 5th time Clarke has been reported in his 24 matches.

The Eagles are back.

A terrific team effort to completely out class and out bustle a disappointing South team. The first quarter was brilliant and set up the game. We had forward crumbers front and centre and created the first few goals from doing this. Grocke was dominant at Centre Half Forward. Symmons and Klun were dangerous and McKenzie, Vince and co were killing South out of the middle. 8 goals to nothing at one stage before South kicked two late goals to close the gap to 6 goals at quarter time. The 2nd quarter was just as impressive kicking in to a slight wind. South threatened early, but good defence from the young trio of Salter, Hier and Stewart kept South goaless before the Eagles pressed forward to get the first goal of the quarter and subsequently kick a further 5 goals before South registered two late goals again before half time.

The last time South played the Eagles at Woodville it was a similar story at half time, the Eagles ended up escaping with a 2 point win that day, so there was still work to be done. The Eagles didn't really capitalise on some good play through the half back line and with Passador being kept quiet, and eventually benched, and the forward crumbers missing, the Eagles struggled in the 3rd term. South piled on a few goals, but still didn't look fluent like they did last year. A 51 point gap at 3 quarter time was always going to be comfortable and in McKenzie's 100th game, the Eagles weren't going to let it slip. The Eagles kicked on in the last before South kicked a few late goals to reduce the final marging to a tick under 10 goals, which should be good enough to get the Eagles up to 2nd position on the ladder.

Best players for the Eagles I thought were Bernie Vince and Leigh Treeby. Both had a ton of disposals and used the ball well. McKenzie, Symmons, Grocke, Klun were all good. There wasn't a weak link in the Eagles team today and it was a solid effort for the majority of the game. Good signs that the Eagles are back to near their best coming into the bye. A huge month coming up after the bye with Norwood at Thebby before playing North, Port and Central all away before another bye. The signs are good!

Great game after the first term South played better but it ws really to late to get back into the game. You could see the south players heads drop after the eagles kicked the fourth unanswered goal.

It could have been called the Vince and Gtocke show in the fisrt term.Sitting in the jarman stand the wind didnt seem that strong anyone sit around the ground tell us if the wind was worth 7 goals.
And didnt the Eagles use that end to their advantage long goal after long goal. Vince Grocke Batanis Symonds all kicked long goals to that end .

Perhaps CD could tell us how Coleville is he went off after 1/2 time in the twos. Latter seen with his arm in a sling .

In the first quarter the wind was worth around 3 goals. After that, it calmed down a little, 1-2 goals there after.

First Inkster and now Colville!

Are they bringing them back too early?

I caught the last 20 minutes of the reserves. An exciting finish. Eagles had two set shots at goal to gain the lead. Ben Schwarze hit the post from 40 out straight in front with seconds to go and South won by 1 point.

What a pity. He must be walking under the same ladders Robbie Fiacchi does.

Robbie Fiacchi - full knee reconstruction to take place this week.
Gavin in pretty good spirit at presentations.

Hopefully after the bye at the WEST TORRENS HERITAGE GAME at Thebarton (v Norwood) we will see a few back and the injury list getting smaller!!
