Not a lot of talk about this, but if what I heard about an umpire being punched is true, then that is an absolute disgrace. No less than life suspension for the player will be enough. Would like to know what happened from someone who was there.

I really hoped I would never hear this happen in our league.

No umpire was punched, an umpire did get caught up in a scuffle and knocked down. Nothing intentional occurred, it was just a football accident that could have happened to a trainer, water boy, runner or player being a person on the field of play.

Was great to see that the umpire was ok and returned to the ground at the end of the game after getting checked out, never good to see anyone getting hurt on the field, particularly a non-player.

How did the umpire get kncoked down? Even accidental contact has resulted in suspensions in the past. Players have a duty of care to avoid contact, not the other way round.
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.

Wineflies show they are not far off top team Happy Valley

Roos destroy Lions with 41 goals and Porties slam on 12 last quarter goals against Marion.

Christies beat Bombers although not surprised to see fight/melee during this match

Disappointing month for the Shoes with losses to Porties, Brighton and Towns with Happy Valley this week. How long until Caudle, Ridley and co are back? a tough draw means top 4 finish might be remote? B-grade on top and beat previously undefeated Towns on the weekend so depth must still be strong?

Would imagine that given an umpire got hit whether by design or accident that the SFL will fine both clubs.

SFL set the precedence after the melee at the under 18 Grand Final last year. Made it very clear that Melee/Fights are Unacceptable in the SFL.. Given an umpire was injured one can expect the General and his henchmen will hold their usual Inquisition and hand down a fine of several thousand dollars and make all undertake a session on violence in football.

From what I saw on Saturday, Reynella are a fair way back from Valley still. Valley did not play particularly well until until they really had to put the foot down, then they did it at will. Given they were missing McKenzie, Borowski and Gordon was gone in the first quarter and they put a key forward into ruck (Squire), I thought the result flattered Reynella a bit.

That said, they have improved immensely over last year. Was surprised at Doughty's lack of impact, but may have just had a bad day. Kudos to Jon Eagleton too, who worked off some very heavy taqs and punishment to finish the game strongly and open Reynella up. I would guarantee he would have been a very sore boy on Saturday night.

I would like to congratulate the coach's, support staff & supporters of the Brighton, Morphettvale, Hackham & Reynella Under 8 football teams.
As the coach of Morphy Parks team it has been very enjoyable the past 4 weeks where the most important thing has been giving as many kids a go as possible, letting the kids have fun and cheering both teams for their efforts.
The behaviour of ALL parents has been exemplary, and friendliness between supporters has been fantastic.
Whilst we do not keep score officially, we know that most kids know the score (and some parents), but this has never been a factor in the games enjoyment.

I particulularly would like to congratulate Brad, the coach of Reynella last weekend for his help, as the young umpire officiating his 2nd game did not have his mentor turn up, and we had to help him with some decisions.
Also the coach of Hackham (whose name escapes me) was outstanding in his generosity by helping my kids with little pieces of advice and tying shoelaces etc.

As a coach of the little champs of the future, you never know quite what to expect when you turn up on a Sunday morning from opposition coach's, but so far so good, and I thought it might be nice to put something positive on the SFL forum for a change.
Off to Marion this Sunday, so fingers crossed ;)

From all reports the mini's coaches, supporters, officials and parents have been outstanding so far this season.............interesting comment about Marion though considering it's my understanding they agreed to play all mini teams at Morphettville Park last season on the last weekend of the season when the carnival got cancelled???

Your in for treat. The Minis are extremely well ran at Marion, all coaches involved are doing an amazing job, and the players and more importantly the parents are fantastic. It really is The one shining light coming out of Marion this year is their Junior program!
Im sure you will be impressed.

Great to hear Moe. Ive had good experiences with Lonsdale, Porties, Christies and Valleys so far.

Sadly 4 blue cards have been issued to 4 different clubs at Under 12 level already.

I was not being deogative towards Marion. Was just hoping it was the same as the first 4 weeks, and as the next post from Helicopter king informs, then I am sure it will be as enjoyable.
Marion were fantastic last year in coming over and playing for a mini version of the twistie cup.

Really disappointed to hear that. Having been involved in minis over the years, I've seen the good the bad and the ugly, but mostly good. I won't name them, but it was always the same clubs we had problems with. If patents, coaches and kids at this age group can't keep their heads, what hope do they have when playing for points and flags?

It seems the issues are 90% of the time at u12 level. I wonder if they kept score and had a ladder as well as a modified finals day instead of a carnival if it would improve things and better prepare the kids for u14's?

Yes mate. True story. I coached Under 15's back in 1994 at Morphy Parks when I was 22. 19 LONG years later I am coaching the son of one of those players. Made me feel Kevin Sheedyish at guernsey presentation night.

I would tend to disagree with your analysis of the game afc. The Flies started pretty well and if it wasn't for some inaccurate kicking the would have won the game.
The flies kicked 3 straight in the last to get it back to about 4 points only for one of the players to miss a shot for goal which then went down the other end for a Valley score. The Vikings then piled on about 4 goals to end the game.
One thing I did notice was the amount of times the Vikings flopped out there trying to get free kicks! I had to look in the tree's at one stage looking for a sniper!!!
The Fly's will definitely be around the mark when you look at that they also had Bradshaw (top 3 player in the league) and Semple (62 goals in 2012) out for the game.
The only time i've ever been wrong...was when I thought I was wrong!!!

Fair enough, we each view things differently, it seemed to me that they always had the answers when challenged and ran the game out strongly. The piling on of 4 goals would tend to support this, but as I said we all see things differently.

Reynella are certainly a massively improved unit from last year and will scare a lot of teams this year come finals time.
