On some earlier comments about HV players milking frees I concur. I have seen plenty of lists in the last week about the top ranked players in getting free kicks for head high tackles and in the back e.g. Selwoods and Shuey but I swear I saw Johnno Eagleton's name bob up in one of those lists. That guy gets an armchair ride from SFL umpires who are easily sucked in by his Selwoodesque tactics.

On another subject, it was a big day for Christies on Saturday. Firstly they had their first ever win at Brighton Oval and then they took on the Shoes in a night game at Glenelg, however they may have lost that one. Would LGIL care to elaborate?

Given the amount of offence you have have taken to what I thought was a pretty minor thing, I have now changed my allegiance to Happy Valley. There should be no more ambiguity then. This preciousness was unexpected, but if it makes you feel better, enjoy your win.

As for SS's comments, I love the deflection of I don't follow a team in the SFL, yet you are an expert on it? I think you are the one who is hiding a true allegiance under your cloke of invisibility.

Only 7 rounds into the season but the final 8 starting to take shape.
In a big step up Christies will get a spot in the 8, barring a horrible collapse of epic proportions , they will def win at least 10 games (easier draw) which guarantees you a spot.
Another improver in Towns only need to win 1 maybe 2 of any of the 50/50 games they have coming up and they will make it. And if Morphett vale's form holds they too should make the 8.
That's 3 teams who didn't last year, so who are the sides to slip out from last years finalists?
Flaggies look in trouble early, and the teams to miss could go down to the wire.....
Brighton, Cove, Porties, shoes??
Thoughts?

No doubt Christies have 'gained respect' with some great performances on field this year but obviously with last weeks melee and weekend events they still have some work too do, would have thought this stuff was behind them with the retirement of Mason & co.....

Finally some chatter on this forum......Vics01 like the AFL the best 4 team will be left in the last 2 weeks of the year to battle it out!

When you have two elimination finals in the first week of finals, two teams are always going to "bow out very quickly"

Looking at Christies draw I would not suggest it is that much easier, play Edwardstown and Reynella twice. If they play finals this year it is because they deserve it. Christies have beaten Cove, Porties, Flaggies and Brighton all teams contesting for the 7th and 8th spot.

Why do we need to fix it?
Happens in AFL, SANFL, all leagues where there are sides making the finals that may not go very far.

Agree. Every league has the same thing occur and it's incredibly difficult to make a grand final from outside the top 4.
The issue is the bottom 8 not the top 8, although it's great to see some clubs like Christies and Edwardstown becoming more competitive. Hopefully this leads to some great games come finals time.

I agree too, Christies will certaily deserve their spot if they get there. They were in front of Valley at half time in their game this year, but couldn't maintain it, but I was really impressed with the pressure they applied and much cleaner disposal than previous years. They also should get massive credit for beating Brighton and Cove.

Front and Centre, I like the caveat of a handful of players aged under 23. Probably proves my point. You guys are a teriffic team and in my opinion as good as or even better than the best the Emu's put on the park during the 2004 to 2009 period. That may upset some Emu people but most of them have disappeared from the forum so that statement may flush a few out.

Happy Valley are clear flag favourites again in 2013, provided player and supporter cockiness doesn't allow you to get ahead of yourselves.

DTH as many Vikings under the age of 24 playing as we got over the age of 30 so dont know where you get your info from

As for Christies they were a tough side and had the jump on us early - had to fight harder for that win than we did against Brighton and Morphett Vale

You keep defeating your own argument MF. So if you have 6 players under 24 you are saying you have 6 players over 30. Sorry, but that is an ageing group. It doesn't mean you are a bunch of geriactrics but it is an old team for SFL standards compared with say a top SAAFL club. I reckon the top 25 HV players would have an average age comfortably higher than the other contenders in 2013 with the possible exception of Reynella and that some of these blokes will not be around for much longer so enjoy the success this current group brings.

Brighton were heading down the same track if we didn't have the significant amount of departures from last season. Even though we still made a GF in 2012 we went from losing 1 game in 2011 to 6 games last year so the senior playing group was already showing signs of needing to be refreshed. It had to be refreshed more than we expected but we are getting games into some very young lads and 20 to 40 game players are taking on more responsible roles so that can only be a good thing moving forward. And as MV and Rey are showing this season, you can't keep a good club down for long.

Ha na mate your kidding yourself DTH...... 1 good season, 1 premiership. Valley's are a really good team but lets see how long they can sustain that dominance up the top before mentioning them in the same breath as the EMU sides from 2004-09.

No argument BRD2 about any club with an era of dominance (likewise HV from 1992 to 1999 - 6 flags in 8 seasons) but in my opinion the current HV team is right up there with any 21 that MV put on the park during that 2004 to 2009 period. I witnessed some very good Brighton teams cop some floggings from MV during that period so I know how good they were. I'm only comparing a team on a given day rather than trying to take anything away from the Emu dominance in the 2nd half of the noughties.

a club to have a 100% seasons to premiership ratio in the SFL, i reckon that side would be the barometer to compare to the best ever i would think ;) 8)

Jeez you guys make it hard, can't win. I change my club on the profile because it upsets people so much that I had my original club on there, now I'm a premiership bandwagoner. Am I not supposed to support the club my kids play for now? Maybe I'll be like the majority and just list no club and pretend I'm impartial. :? ;)
