SANFL Coaches in Waiting

A hypothetical question:

If, at the end of this season, two league level coaching positions were vacant at the 9 SANFL clubs, who are the coaches in waiting to fill those positions?

An assistant coach/reserves coach at an SANFL club?
A former SANFL coach?
An amateur league coach?
A retiring or recently retired SANFL player?
A retiring or recently retired AFL player?
Someone from another league - WAFL, VFL, U/18s, TFL, NTFL, QFL, ACTAFL?

The reason I pose this question is that the dilemma for the SANFL is getting a quality coach who is gonna stick at it for a while and not necessarily use the SANFL as a springboard to other opportunities that may arise at a higher level.

Everyone is using the SANFL as a springboard. (Except those that have already been there and done it) It's called ambition. Who wouldn't want to play or coach in the AFL given the chance. It is a factor of life, and if a big company came along and offerred you a huge salary increase to trade your talents on a bigger stage, I am sure you would take it too.

That is not true. I'm pretty sure Ron Fuller and Roy Laird only want to coach at SANFL level, combining with their career outside of football. The SANFL certainly isn't just a springboard to the AFL. It is something to aspire to in itself.

That is not true. I'm pretty sure Ron Fuller and Roy Laird only want to coach at SANFL level, combining with their career outside of football. The SANFL certainly isn't just a springboard to the AFL. It is something to aspire to in itself.

I think Andrew Rogers will be the next coach at the Eagles. He is currently in his first year coaching the Reserves. When that is, is probably up to when Ron Fuller wants to call it a day.

Yeah true, but sometimes you need to take a step back to take 2 steps forward. Perhaps he wants experience rebuilding a side from the ground up?

One of the other Bays fans might be more able to give you a serious answer. I haven't seen much of the ressies this year, and have only attended the post-game presentations once.

Interesting point that he left the Crows to Coach WWT and I think he returned to the crows 1 year latter.
He was let go from the Crows at the end of the Ayres years and was employed by the Power. He didnt last very long there.
And ended up at the bay will he be there for much longer he doesn't seem to hang around for long.

He looks like he could do the job Aerie .He is getting the seconds to play a running attacking game .
With the back up that helps both Ron and Andrew its a very much WWT heirs in waiting .And its nice to see former WWT players coaching and helping out .Tradition grows this way as well as FLAGS .

Was interested to consider if the coaching pathway these days is

AFL player to SANFL coach
SANFL player to SANFL coach
Reserves Coach to league coach
Amateur coach to League coach

I still wonder if, given the opportunity, Laird would go to an AFL club as an assistant coach?

I suppose it was a bit of a sweeping generalisation. I suppose the point I was making is that most coaches, players and physio's would jump at the chance of doing it in the AFL.

My post was in no way meant to degrade the SANFL and of course there are many players and coaches who aspire to the SANFL
