Just on another topic..

I know umpires are hard to come by and aren't many running around etc, and it's div 7 you get the bottom of the barrell blah blah blah, but SURELY there must be some sort of standard still to be met or appraisal of umpires etc?! Can't just stick some bloke into an A grade game because he wants to umpire and there is no one else..

Saturday evening was arguably the WORST umpiring i have witnessed, in fact i'm not even sure the umpire could actually see! Some bizarre decisions - decisions that left all and sundry scratching their heads and play was held up while players from both sides tried to work out what was going on.

The umpire couldn't even remember which way teams were kicking - gave a 25m, ran the wrong way before he was corrected and had to go back and give 25 the other way! :?

Another one - Ingle Farm free kick about 50m out, shot for goal was marked easily in the square by Smithfield couple metres short - umpire calls "Advantage" and all clear for the goal :? After about a minute of arguing with players, umpire ends up taking the goal back (I assume as there was no signal from ump or goal ump), then awards 50 and Ingle Farm kick the goal anyway... still dont know what the original infringement was for!

I'd be VERY surprised if that was the case. I would imagine this would be getting looked into privately from the league, no need to list reports etc - just as happened with Ingle Farm last year when we had that incident..

and please be mindful not to make any accusations you can't back up or prove or your post will be removed - and I think most of you know what I'm talking about. :?

Thanks

If by 'hard and tuff' you mean 'belting blokes off the ball'...then yes.

The umpiring in division 7 is disappointing. Poor decisions most of us can handle. But it gets out of control when players are throwing king hits in front of the umpires, and no follow up happens. If anything, a lack of duty of care.

I'm not sure why blatant violence is not getting followed up, maybe because the umpires can't be bothered with the paper work and the tribunal? Nonetheless, if this standard continues you can expect it to start getting out of control. For example, the Smithfield - IF incident.

Yes we know footy is a contact sport, and yes some people do take a big hit every now and then. But we can't have people getting away with throwing punches after the play has stopped. Do this outside of a footy game and you'll probably get locked up.

If there was zero tolerance, I think the league would be a lot different.

Ingle Farm have had security at games since early last year when we had an incident.

With the colour of shorts, i dont understand if your team colour is something like yellow why you should have to wear white when you play away? And on the flip side if someone like say Ingle Farm played Angle Vale away, they should be encouraged to wear their green home shorts.

I think teams should only have to wear white shorts if the colours are going to clash or make it difficult to distinguish in anyway.

From what I saw if they play the way they did Saturday night they will come close or if so win against top teams, they'll be in the top 5 after this week! I'm sure they will prove many people wrong!

Without sounding too over the top we could end up with games where no supporters are allowed into the game to watch as happens in European soccer. The league should really consider rescheduling the return bout between Smithfield and ingle farm at thebby, locking the gates and charging both teams the costs of such an exercise. Thoughts?

And could you imagine the kick the opposition would get out of that!! Imagine if you had to then play them in the finals.... Wouldn't be pretty.
