To be fair on the sheep it is kind of hard to move when your attached to some velcro gloves.

Prob would've been easier signing up the animals and structuring your game plan around them

Thanks Footy Chick, We don't have security at games normally, but decided to at this one due to it being a night game
and we could not be sure of who or how many would attend.

Unfortunately you can't control who comes to your games and if they come in numbers then it's out of your hands. Smithfield has always been a hostile environment and I've been going there since the late 90's. Back then the top teams went in a bus, changed in a bus some 200 metres from the clubrooms, ran on to the ground, played a tough hard game and win or lose straight back on the bus and back to their club. It's a real pity that for all the hard work they have done things havn't changed in all that time. There are some terrific people in the 'inner sactum' who work tirelessly for the club they love, maybe we should be offering support to them and not be to eager to put them all in the same catagory. :(

Are you for real? That is the biggest load of bullshit I've read on here in a long time. I've seen maybe 5 southern-most clubs travel by bus since 1995 for travel reasons, I've seen one skirmish in the crowd and that was caused by some thugs from another club that I wont mention who began assaulting an assistant coach in Smithfield's coaches box.
There was an ugly incident at Pulteney during a B Grade match about 6 years ago that was dealt with but apart from that and what happened on Saturday evening you are just full of hot air.
So to get on here and praise and bag in the one sentence is just a pathetic cop out, I don't think Mitchell Park has been full of harp playing Cherubs for the past twenty years either champ.

Minor detail but this happened in 2009 the year the A's won the D5 Flag.

Apart from that gutless peanut The rest of their Supporter base were well behaved.

Whilst true, all of our incidents have been related to on field behaviour - of which we have had a borderline unblemished record for the last 5 years.

We have been widely known as thugs and ferals, but I have never, ever, seen the police required at a MPFC game - let alone in the numbers reported to have been required on Saturday night. Never needed security or anything of the sort. Not even close. I just cannot believe the stories being PM'ed and reported in the media. It's absolutely appalling. You cannot and should not compare this incident to other clubs records or look to somehow diminish what has happened by pointing fingers.

I should also mention that Yankman has been involved in several clubs, including Edwardstown and Yankalilla. It would be unfair on him and the MPFC to bundle them together as one and the same.

In addition, we keep on focussing on the night itself and the inability of the clubs to act. We should be focussing on why these people were there in the first place, what caused them to assault people and how we can stop them from attending a SAAFL game ever again.

Does Yankman have a spokesperson? I responded to the garbage that he wrote, I drew no comparisons nor have I tried to diminish what happened, nor have I finger pointed. I know about as much fact as you do on the matter as neither one of us were there.

Which is exactly what you're doing...

Good luck with that, let me give you some answers:

We should be focussing on why these people were there in the first place

Because they can.

what caused them to assault people

Because they can

and how we can stop them from attending a SAAFL game ever again
You can't and I'd like to see you try

Time to step off the moral high ground now Morgs, you're starting to sound like a broken record and you now damn well nothing can be resolved here, so why bother. Perhaps try running for parliament ;)

I think everyone needs to stop the finger pointing and sly remarks - including the other mods...thanks

To be honest i have only ever seen Smithfield play one game so can't make a clear judgement on them. But that game was this year in a hard fought game where they went down to a very hungry Flinders Uni side in round 2. The game was tough but fair with no more than your average push and shove, there was no belting blokes behind the play or anything. they had a large group of travelling supporters that i think actually arrived on a coach bus, and again they seemed fine. Might be a bit different when Flinders head outh that way as they may both be figting for the same finals spot!!

I also saw a half of an Ingle Farm game just 2 weeks back and again they didnt seem to be thugs, they had some big boys more than happy to impose themselves but thats standard.

I can only think that this is an isolated incident, well hopefully anyway. Fingers crossed that there is nothing else like it in the league, especially Div 7 for the rest of the year. If there are supporters involved i trust the clubs will be doing everything they can to sort them out so their clubs are not tarnished with a bad name, bevause it will make it mighty hard to attract players/supporters going forward..
