I know, but so far, out of your 20 posts, I'm pretty sure 10 of them have said that Smithfield are going to be a big threat come finals.

Smithfield are in the box seat at the moment to retain that 5th position.
From results we've seen so far, it'd almost be fair to say that Smithfield are at least a 5 goal better side when at home.
We are also yet to see, how many of Smithfield's remaining home games will still be allowed to happen at Smithfield...
Given their current positioning, they'd need to show strong form & require SHOC or Angle Vale to drop enough to get them at least one home final.
IIRC there has only been one side in SAAFL history to win from 5th (in div 1 at least)
I'd say it'd also be pretty tough to rule out challenges for the top 5 from Flinders Park, Uni & Henley, if they can keep up last weekend's form.

Still plenty to happen, so this is all pure speculation at this point.

I think CBCOC did in Div 5 a while back. Maybe 2007?

I remember because they knocked us off in the elimination final. Went on to beat a very, very, very good Fitzroy side spearheaded by Ben Hart by a point in the granny from memory.

I'm pretty sure back in 2009 in div 6, hectorville scraped into the five by 0.02% after losing in round 18. They only made it because paralowie lost by a few more points. They then went on to win the flag and from memory went back to back in 2010 in div 5. I'll stand to be corrected??

Re: teams coming from 5th. You may all be right.

I just remember when Goodwood Saints did it, it was definitely the first time a Div 1 side had done it, just wasn't sure about the rest of the divs.

Now I think about it, Kilburn might of done it from 5th div 4 in 2011.

Point is, doesn't happen often! 8)

Sitting 5th at the moment with significantly more percentage than 6th & 7th teams. 5 home games to come. I would expect Smithfield to play finals.

Yep, they are gonna be a real threat I think come finals!

I think you need to pump the brakes a little. There is a big difference between making finals and being a "real threat". You'll get some idea where you are at when you go up to Houghton in Round 11

Would've thought the smart thng for you to do would be to keep the focus off smithfield for a few weeks?[/quote]

As one of the people who have been involved in the last few years when the club nearly folded
due to all the players leaving I question your comment. The club has changed and thanks to all
who have recognised this fact. Yes there was an incident at the last home game, and all the blame
has been laid at our doors. Past has been dug up and hell there has been nothing at this club for the
3 years I have been involved, so why would the "focus off Smithfield" for a couple of weeks be a benefit ???
when everyone is so keen to dig up skeletons and sink the boots in. It is obvious that whatever the
club does to improve its image it will never be accepted by a certain minority. Good luck to all
teams for the rest of the year. And hell keep ya cupboards clean!!!!

Not to Ingle Farm, Houghton Districts, Angle Vale and Shocs, just on my experience at the half way mark in Div 7. IF and HD are proven Div 6 performers and will play off in the biggie, AV have a 50/50 record in finals and Shocs have the bonus of picking from 204 players come finals. Not being harsh on the blue boys but they have an uncanny knack of qualifying so many guality players in teams who make finals.

Well we lost to HD in round 1 bye 20 points but had the lead the whole game and then Ingle farm we were in front half way through the 3rd quarter so if we can play 4 quarters of footy I'm sure we will shock many top teams, surprised shoc lost to Henley on the weekend! Any thoughts on that game??
