Thornton No More?

Postby Wedgie » Fri Nov 04, 2005 10:55 pm

This from snoutslouts.org:

unfortuneately john thornton has given up bookmaking so there will be only one avenue of betting & no avenue to get on with mistakes in the market

I think 2 years of having North over the odds killed him off! I'm stil thankful for the $4 he gave me about beating Norwood at Norwood last year.

That's odd, spoke to him on the phone only Thursday and still have an account there. He's also given me odds on the Redbacks for the season. Should I be worried?

MK, If I had 10K stashed in an account there, I'd be withdrawing it (better safe than sorry)- where there's smoke... mind you, you are protected- all Bookmakers must lodge a deposit with the Betting Control Board, and provided the bets were legitimate (ie not on the nod etc), you are covered by a fund. However, you would have to make a claim, and this would obviously take some time to process/resolve. My comments are not to say that Thornton is in trouble/has quit etc, just outlining a "worst case" scenario...

Confirming that Steve Churches is running the sports betting from now on- John Thornton declared his resignation as a Bookmaker in Saturdays paper. 2 other Bookies also handed in their notice- Holton was one, the other I don't recall. I'd say that'd take the number of Licensed Bookies in the state to about 34... The Government is screwing them royally- forcing them to bet with the Pro's , while the TAB has a monopoly on the mug money. They should've allowed the Bookies to operate from the Casino. Fantastic atmosphere, unlike the morgue that is the betting auditorium.

just to confirm what pr said, bob holton (glenelg man) johnny thornton & the other was andy haskett that has handed in their bookmaking liscences & pr the auditorium lost its atmosphere when it moved from the racecourse to where it is now plus the rest of the centre doesn't want it there they just want food & pokies
