2013 Federal election - Rudd sets date as 7th September

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

Help me out here, I'm a little slow, doesn't that mean: the ALP were unable to govern effectively? - well let's give someone else a shot.

No it doesn't. However, if you do not hold the balance of power, you need to reach compromises. If the Liberal Party had supported the Emissions Trading Scheme (as they did prior to the election), we would have ended up with an Emissions Trading Scheme. However, they went against their policy simply as they wanted to oppose just about any policy introduced. Thus, the Emissions Trading Scheme did not get through and we had to settle for what the Greens wanted, the Carbon Tax.

bulldogproud2 wrote:Secondly, Tony Abbott has promised to turn the boats back if he wins government. If he is unable to do this, he should be held as accountable as people are holding Julia Gillard for the Carbon Tax. Btw, he will not be able to do it - Indonesia has already slapped his wrist over this.

It's not just the carbon tax that has the electorate despising Julia. Let's not forget:
- Knifing the prime minister
- The real Julia scam
- Handling of boatpeople.
- Home Insulation Scheme
- Live exports backflips.
- The Craig Thompson issue, not to mention Peter Slipper.
- Reneging on the deal with Wilkie to tackle Problem Gambling.
- Building Education Revolution.
- The legal issues she had over creating slush funds for union officials.
- The Mining Rent Tax.
- Promising a surplus then failing to deliver.

I'm sure there are others but you get the picture.

And on the surplus, they then came out saying government revenue had decreased and that's why they couldn't deliver the surplus, however when pressed on the issue, they once again backfliped and admitted government revenue had increased 6, 9 and 6% over the last three year.

If Tony makes that many major blunders, expect the electorate to treat him with the same level of distain.

It's not just the carbon tax that has the electorate despising Julia. Let's not forget:
- Knifing the prime minister (compare that against knifing Malcolm Turnbull)
- The real Julia scam (remember the circumstances, and Tony Abbott's lies, that were the reason for this)
- Handling of boatpeople. (I agree, both parties have acted very inhumanely on this)
- Home Insulation Scheme (not the best of policies, agreed)
- Live exports backflips. (Coalition promised exactly the same policies)
- The Craig Thompson issue, not to mention Peter Slipper. (Peter Slipper was a member of the Liberal Party, never a member of the Labor Party)
- Reneging on the deal with Wilkie to tackle Problem Gambling. (Abbott wants nothing done at all on gambling)
- Building Education Revolution. (A great success - ask those in any school nowadays)
- The legal issues she had over creating slush funds for union officials. (Total hogwash - unsubstantiated, false)
- The Mining Rent Tax. (Nothing wrong with it, except for the timing - low revenue receipts, should have been brought in earlier)
- Promising a surplus then failing to deliver. (The global economy changed, perfectly wise decision to not deliver the surplus)

I'm sure there are others but you get the picture.

(Government revenue had decreased from those forecast)

The truth doesn't really matter. Votes will be based on the public perception, and the perception at the moment is she's stuffed up on all of the above.

True, and who has perpetuated the belief that she stuffed up, when in fact she didn't?? As said before, the Fourth Estate does have power in Australia unfortunately.

Absolute CARP, go back to the records and see what Tony Abbott stated at the time of the GFC. He stated that there was no way that Australia could avoid going into double-digit unemployment. The highest it reached in Australia was 6%. Even Mr. Abbott had to give praise to the Labor government, knowing that he could not run it anywhere near as well.
Cheers

Please direct me to any Abbott statement praising this mob? Wishful thinking perhaps?

Perhaps this one will do??

TONY Abbott issued one of the most remarkable, perhaps even shocking, statements of his time as Opposition Leader yesterday. Given that Abbott advised the public in early 2010 to treat his written pronouncements more seriously than his off-the-cuff responses in interviews, this was particularly noteworthy because it arrived in the form of a press release.

In the statement, the Opposition Leader offered unstinting praise for a decision by the Gillard government.

That is not a misprint. Abbott was effusive in his endorsement of the appointment of Jim Spigelman, a former New South Wales chief justice appointed by the Carr Labor government and one-time adviser to Gough Whitlam, as the new chairman of the ABC.

The really bad thing is that it is not the Labor Party placing it in the news. If you listen to any Labor politician, they all know there will not be a leadership spill.
Why does the media have to try to create stories all the time??

Why not? They are in the business of making money and the ALP geese are a prime target  You would not be complaining if this were directed at the opposition?

I would actually. What I believe in is truth and honesty. I used to be a member of the Liberal Party and was being groomed to take over from Heini Becker at one time.

This is really absurd behaviour from the Queensland Government. Peter Garrett is the Minister for Education. His job involves visiting schools. How silly and petty that the Coalition Government will not let him do his job!!
Imagine being told that you are not allowed to go into your workplace, simply because the State Government wants to make political mileage. Crazy!!!!

It is his workplace. He is the head of education in Australia.
He is the boss, no matter what the state's political leaders say.

If you think that is good politics or even good policy then aren't we going to be so lucky when we have a federal coalition government later this year.

I'd love to hear you share the same opinion if the SA government blocks federal coalition ministers from sites within their ministry in SA.

Okay, how would the Queensland Minister for Education feel if he was not allowed into various schools in Queensland?? ;)

Education is actually a State function.
Tell me something: why was Garrett going there?
To mark some test papers? :weedman:
He was there to make political statements
How about letting the little beggars get on with learning.

Interesting story in the media about how some in the Liberal Party consider Julia Gillard to have a small pair of tits and large thighs. Not sure I agree, but I would probably rather not find out anway!
