Damien Cupido is an extremely talented footballer
It disturbs me when twice this year against Port and Norwood
that opposition supporters make derogative comments at him.

I believe he is now going to Church with the assistant coach and
is trying to mend his previous missappropriate ways.

When I go and watch him play footy I marvel at his skill level and his
flamboyant effectiveness, and enjoy watching him.

And the people who want to sledge him from the comfort of the boundary
terraces, thats thier perogative as well, but I dont

In for west is G.Rowe and Green

Out is Wood

Gray was named to play for Westies although that could change

Previwe of the game from Doug Robertson in the advertiser

MOST people enjoy a trip to the country but not Central District coach Roy Laird, whose only focus is to crush West Adelaide in the SANFL showcase game at Berri from 2pm tomorrow.

"Ruthless" Roy has said the only way he'll enjoy the Riverland sojourn is by beating the Bloods to a pulp to keep the Dogs' unbeaten run intact after round nine.

"All sides come up against us barrel-chested, wanting to knock us off but that brings out the competitive nature of our players," Laird said. "I'm really lucky to be involved with such a professional group, so going to the country is not some kind of jaunt."

The Power claimed Brad Symes and possibly Justin Westhoff, for his debut, but Central has Chris Gowans and Scott Dutschke back and the same steely outlook that underpinned triumphs over all-comers - including twice over highly-rated North Adelaide.

West's "country boy" coach Wayne Weidemann also doesn't want to breathe the fresh country air without winning the game. His platoon of fresh faces - led by Daniel Caire, Alex Hutchins, Jackson Barling, Jeremy Rowe and Caolan Buckley - learned last week that experience is hard to beat. West, which lost Robert Gray (Power), has five players who have played 50 games or more. Central has 11, including Daniel Schell (100 for the Dogs tomorrow).

The Bloods had a soul-searching week after conceding a 17-point last-term lead last week.

Weidemann says "four or five (players) were exposed" for not working hard enough behind the play. The Weed, who declined to publicly talk about the slump last week, is on speaking terms with his players again after what he said was a week of "honest" self-assessment.

"It'll be about how much defensive pressure we put on Central. If we don't keep it up for four quarters we'll get belted," Weidemann said. "I'm looking for blokes who go in with an attitude to win and who can maintain the pressure for four quarters. Whether it's Central, Sturt or Norwood the week before, we haven't worked for four quarters and that's why we're losing close games."

Amen to that.

One area where Centrals are suspect is in ruck, they got hammered in ruck last week and I feel this will lead to their eventual downfall.
Is there anyone at West that can take advantage of that?

You are right this is our weakness but our midfield and on-ballers are our strength as is our defence. Roy has said a few times that the around the ground efforts of our ruckmen make up for thie lack of taps.
We used to be good :-(

I can't wait!
I'm so pumped for this game!

We play on Sunday this week because of the match. Our squad got the lecture last night about looking after ourselves on Saturday, as we're playing for top spot, and everyone looked at me! Like I was the one who was going to hit the grog too hard. Why look at the Centrals supporter????

You obviously haven't got a bad forward set up either if you can afford Daniel Schell at CHB.
I spent quite a bit of time talking to some Dogs fans in the last half last week and well agreed that Central would be unbeatable with 2 Schells. As a photographer I miss him at full forward as I used to keep the camera focussed on him for most of the day always getting a snap of a specky or 2.

I think both Giles and MacKenzie are very under-rated ruckmen, there work around the ground is just as good, if not better than any other combination in the league. They would average about 20 possesions a game between them, not bad.

They do lack numbers in the hit-outs, but MacKenzie's bustling, jump at them style means the opposition ruckmens hitouts are genreally ineffective. And with the likes of Callinan, Slattery, Slade, Gowans, O'Sullivan, Switala waiting underneath the ball losing some hit-outs is no major deal.

Overall i think there work around the ground makes up for the lack of hit-outs, only due to the midfield we have.

Remember we won a grand final by a record margin effectivly not using a ruckmen at all and rucking to Lindsays taps.

Yep good point, I just think that it will cost you a game eventually, not necessary a premiership, just a game.;)

Whufc, I think that that just goes to show how over-rated tap ruckmen are. Give me a guy who takes marks around the ground over a guy who just wins the centre bounces anytime.
Cheers!

Hooper - first game for Westies.

Big game for Luke Mensforth - playing in the key defensive position on home territory. The only Riverlander to play in the big game tomorrow.

Good luck to him.
