Was speaking to a lawyer associate who had a very interesting opinion on where the club mt barker itself would be positioned if a player was seriously injured and financially disadvantaged as a direct cause on the state of the oval.. You apparently cannot hide behind signing off on a satisfactory ground report signed off b4 a round as the HFL thinks u can. At least the ironbank oval is the best surface by a mile in the league behind cally even tho not big. The club is endevouring to improve visitor and general facilities all with minimal council help as they unlike most clubs own their oval. The next step for them would b to get a team as good as barkers. They are the best by a mile and good luck to em. Just fix ur bloody oval. It's worse than a disgrace. Keep ur kids off it and train else where. U had 6 games on there yesterday . Not smart mr Williams. Well done to noonan as well. What a champ that guy is. HFL is alive and well. :D :D :D

You have made some very valid points hb, but I would keep Ironbank out of the equasion. (Finding the ground is a challenge in itself before assessing anything else).

Mt. Barker Oval is hazardous at best and at worse is downright dangerous. Last week our trainers had to tend to an opposition player with a suspected spinal injury. He lay face down in mud in the centre square and the game had to be abandoned. An Emergency Response non-carrier vehicle JUST managed to reach him through the mud. The following primary Ambulance did not attempt to reach him due to the bog and the player actually had to be manually transported on a barouche over mud, bumps, bog and slip-risks. All this with a very valid, suspected spinal injury!.

And on another note, why are the changerooms on the opposite side of the ground to the benches? Our Trainers and support staff had to drive our stuff over there so our belongings and medical equipment was on hand. No drinking water anywhere near and no hot drinks for support staff and players on the bench. And yes the toilet in the rooms stunk.

I'm grateful to have never been injured on this ground.
Players win awards. Teams win games. Clubs win Premierships.

Gervais read the post again. You should open ur ears and eyes being a barker boy. IB change rooms aren't the best but they are better than the shit hole at mt barker. Yes they flooded 2 weeks ago but they are bigger and they don't stink like barkers do. The IB oval behind Cally is better than any other on a wet day. TAKES RAIN better than any oval in the league. Once again selective in your opinion. Good points hurt like the truth does champ. Bit of poetry there.

boy, why are you so angry?

just to be clear, i previously played for onkas and have no affiliation with mt barker. i agree 100% that the barker oval is a disgrace and potentially unsafe. however, i have a problem with ironbank being held up as the benchmark of hills ovals, it is of average standard at best, with away change rooms that are the poorest in the central division.

one final point, why list yourself as a uraidla supporter when you're clearly not ?

What else is new about filthy Mt Barker oval. Have played on it umpteen times and the reason that its still filthy is that they are a protected club. Trainers and players can always complain on Health and Safety grounds but no prizes for guessing who runs the Trainers Association that is supposed to deal with it.

Is there any truth to the story that Simon Johnson has been approached by the HFL to join the board for season 2014?
Is this the right move for the HFL? And are we seeing the birth of the Impact Director?

He's a very good umpire, he got involved in the Loby v Onkas game, as good hearted banter between clubs took place under the verandah, it was actually a good vibe considering we (both clubs) lost some friends in the past week or so.

I agree that while we have a great rivalry, some of my best after game drinks are with the guys from Loby, win lose or draw. The way it should be.
Yes, sad times for both clubs.

So Terminator can you shed some light on the incident which saw you reported for dishing out sexual harassment to a player on the weekend?
I understand you call yourself the impact umpire but that just might be taking it a bit far

Think he has a point. Div 2/country clubs have gotten their act together re. Ovals in the last 15 years so it's probably appropriate that the 'Roos do something about theirs.

Have to agree with has been regarding the state of Mt Barker oval. Our U13 Gold side had to play there last night after their A grade & it was a disgrace, close to being as bad as Bridgewater oval. I know we had a lot of rain overnight but that's not a good enough excuse for the oval being as bad as it was. Lighting is a joke as well.

Why don't some of these clubs refuse to play on the ground. Both clubs have to sign off on the surface as fit, safe and healthy to play on the morning of game day. Here's a thought, instead of putting over 100 children and men in an unsafe environment by playing on that surface simply don't sign off on the ground as fit to play on. Apparently spending tens of thousands of dollars on an electronic scoreboard is more important than player safety to Mt Barker. Oh... and tens of thousands of dollars going into the pockets of many A grade players. I challenge the remaining clubs who have to play on this dung hole to make a stand at the start of the day and refuse the ground as a fit surface to play on. The HFL has an obligation to follow up on this also... but will they??
