Lets just say that the Magpies are able to force their way to a grand final berth in the SANFL, and the Power do not finish in the top 8 of the AFL, would that exclude any Power AFL listed player from playing for the Magpie in the Grand Final? Would that put the Magpies at a disadvantage over the other Grand Finalist who do not have to lose players while the Magpies could have to non select up to 8 or 10 players who are AFL listed and have played for the Magpies throughout the season.
Makes one wonder.

Why would they suddenly be excluded? That doesnt happen now, why would it happen then?

That was my understanding of it.
Most years several AFL listed players get withdrawn from SANFL finals, IF Port reserves made finals it would be interesting to see if the same rule applied.
Would Port rest them all or would they have a change of heart?

Keith Thomas in his orignal pitch said that they would not withdraw players come finals time (if they qualify of course!) to help maintain "integrity" of the comp and the play to win focus by entering into the SANFL comp. The Crows have remained silent on that issue to date.
Let's see what both clubs do in terms of this years comp re qualified players not being withdrawn especially if there is no decision made by then re AFLReserves for 2014 or if the SANFL Clubs vote NO between now and finals time?

I bet that the last round of this years SANFL season and perhaps even the finals and Grand final could be among the best attended games in recent years as people will go as they know the comp will be dead

As a confirmation of that position, Keith Thomas (on record) in last Thursdays pitch stated that all injury concerns come finals time would be independently verified by 3rd party medical staff.

Lets say Magpies make the Grand Final as the Power Reserves. If they are true to their word then up to 17 players may play on the first Sunday in October in the Grand Final, then under the AFLPA rules they must have an 8 week break before pre-season, so up to 17 of the Port list, mainly those who are developing, will not turn up for pre-season until nearly mid December, train for 2 weeks and then have their Christmas break coming back in January with 2 weeks pre-season under their belt and 4 weeks from the NAB cup.
Can we honestly see the Power allowing this????

If the Maggies are the AFL teams reserves, and if the Power miss the AFL finals and the Maggies make the SANFL GF, what's to stop the Powers (sorry) that be, loading up the Maggies with AFL players, so they can claim another Premiership to their long list...
Has it been mentioned before that there would be a limit to the number of AFL listed players that can play in the SANFL? I would think that if the Magpies are just a reserve team for the AFL team then they could play as many as they like. Is this correct or am I way off track????
Sorry if this has been mentioned before, there is so much argument and counter argument that I can't keep up...

There is a minimum SANFL qualification of 5 games for AFL players in Finals. Can't see that changing.
But you've raised a valid point. So many on here are obsessed with the "integrity" of the Finals being "compromised" by the AFL clubs removing their AFL players. While you are concerned they'll load them up in an effort to win the Flag.
Hmmm, interesting
