Those who say 'they'll thrash us all and win the flag' or 'they'll struggle to win 2 games' are potentially both right. It's all about injuries (plus the one senior emergency usually held back in case). Unlike say Geelong VFL, the Crows won't have a strong supply of mature-bodied players from the local area able to slot in and perform a role to state-league standard.

For AFL clubs whose top-up players are borderline-standard at best, inconsistency is the touchstone. If lucky, they may have close to a full team of AFL players and beat the top team by 10 goals, or as the season wears on there's a good chance that they'll have only half a side of AFL-listed players, and the bottom side could flog them by 15 goals.

And, here's the rub (and the reason why they are particularly likely to fail in finals if they make it there): as long as their players are being developed according to their gameplan, They Won't Care.

Surely all 8 clubs should drop the Crows players for the rest of the year... no point in playing them anymore since they can't develop them any further for 2014?

Crows will be a finals contender next year, SANFL clubs will go out of their way to make them competitive.

For those players who play for their SANFL club most of the time, it will be interesting to see how fans react to them belting their own team at times, i.e. McIntyre and Callinan kicking goals against Sturt and Central.

You'd doubt Callinan would be on the Crows squad next year anyway. Of those players listed, Stiffy, Callinan and Tambling wouldn't be on the Crows list, and Porps has played one sanfl game in many years, so the above team is stronger than what they'll field most weeks anyway

Callinan would be their prime Target for their so called 'leadership' player though....

So now its reverting to an 18 game season, and assuming the SANFL commissions push to force Port to follow suit - either in 2014 by choice, or 2015 after they revoke the magpies license, at some point the comp will be an 18 round comp across 21 weeks with only 6 reserves and underage sides.

Unless they elect to run the reserves and underage on their own scheduling, at some point we are going to see reserves sides playing a 14 game season across 21 weeks (with 4 less games due to no Crows/Port reserves).

How many reserves level players are going to decide that the training loads and low remuneration is not worth it, and as a result elect to play elsewhere (amateur league and country).

Will this decision be the starting point for scrapping the reserves comp at some point down the track ?

The VFL is the old VFA which is our Saafl. No wonder they suck!!Get with the program. They dont suck just now, because they have always sucked !!

The Vic equivalent of the SAAFL is the VAFA. The SA equivalent of the VFA was the SAFA, something which died a long time ago which is also where the VFA was heading. Too many inner city clubs and most of them were going broke.

Ditto for me and my mates re no abuse for Johnston / Wright as they are born and bred Roosters. Not sure about the AFL mini draft "bow ins" re support (e.g. for us Sloane if he is that unlucky to drop back!) but at the end of the day it is not the players fault so the abuse should be reserved IMO for the plastic post 1990 Crows supporters who might say they supported SA footy prior to the start of season 1991 but in realty will have to get their street directories and "sat nav's" updated to work out the suburbs to which the "Mighty Adelaide Crows" will venture each week from 2014 onwards!

Nah stuff all their players, supporters and staff.
With any luck the true supporters will make the Cows fans scared of going to the games

If that's the path you want to go down then it will definitely mean the death of the SANFL. Surely you wouldn't be that stupid to make it uncomfortable for people to attend games so that your side loses income.

Lol, you reckon Callinan would play for a Crows reserves side against Central?

Lol at your self. After this year he needs a job again. But yeah he will say sorry AFC I don't want to be an assistant at your club that's a full time job, I would rather go back to being a tradie and play against you.

How long exactly would this "coaching" role at Adelaide last.... I'm guessing until he finished playing. I'd suspect if he gets delisted he's better off returning to Centrals and going back to being a tradie which would give him a long term future.

I'm not sure that 'SANFL assistant coach' is a long term career choice. (Peter Jonas will in all likelyhood coach the side)

Even if the crows didn't have a reserves side he would've been employed by the crows.

I'd hate that. Would love to see Richard line up in a Double Blue gurnsey next year. Won't happen but I can dream...

Life is about opportunities and today I seized one.

I am confident that Centrals will take up my offer to be a crows top up player in 2014 and I look forward to adding to my league games tally of 0.

I invite every one of you for pre game beers on the day of my debut.
