I know they had them there in the past and from attending a few reckon its the worst venue for finals - the same years they had em at Reynella - Happy Valley, I guess the only issue is the surface with these decks if it gets to wet.

Yep, Hickinbotham isn't exactly pumping, would far rather a return to the club grounds for the grand final.

I hear what everyone keeps saying about this but I really don't think any of our grounds can properly accommodate GF day anymore. Is it more about the players or the spectators? The facilities for players at Hick. are outstanding, home or away team.

And if it is for the spectators, is it the few who can get their car in a decent spot around the oval at one of our club grounds. What about the foot soldiers in each club who choose or are required to be in and around the coaches box area as they do every other week. Port Noarlunga is always an issue for decent spectating on the "members" side and I'm not sure if those sheds make it better or worse now. Plus that narrow road in and out of Porties also causes major issues getting in and out of the place. I suppose those people who own those fancy houses could hire their balconies to the highest bidder. On a nice warm day the Brighton crew in our tank tops and denim shorts sucking on a few Corona's (lime wedge in the neck) would probably go for that.

If Hick. was more like a Glenelg or Norwood Oval we wouldn't be complaining so much but whoever signed off on the final design and infrastructure at Hick. should be shot.

The weekly timing of this winters rainfall has created more wet weather footy than the last couple of years. It seems most rain we have had, has fallen on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday and it appears this week will be no different.

DTH, about time the council did something about the drainage. My brother was the groundsman there from late 70's to mid - late 80's. He spent hours upon hours each winter sinking a couple of hundred 4 foot deep holes all around the oval with a posthole digger and filling them with gravel in an attempt to get some drainage happening.

How is the centre wicket in summer these days? I used to enjoy having a hit on that track, thought is was the best in ATCA back in those days.

M8 your brother was a Master of his Trade , Brighton Oval was in pristine condition back then when I played for them

OMM, he was a genius with turf, both the oval and criket pitch were the envy of most clubs around Adelaide. It's a great pity he's no longer with us continuing to ply his trade.

Yes one of the Biggest shocks I got after living in Darwin for 22yrs was the massive deteriation of the deck @ Brighton not just the Footy Oval but all Playing fields had lost that spark they once had , be good if the council had a Red Hot Crack at bringing it back to its former glory

One of the reasons for the loss of spark was the councils decision back in the mid - late 80's do away with a full time groundsman at the complex. Rugby ground, oval, cricket pitch and lacross(?) grounds were all looked after by him and they fell away gradually. I think the bean counters call that "progress"!......Scotch College were mighty pleased to get him on board to get their decks back in order.

Can't see an issue with Marion hosting a final......excellent surface, good changerooms (home and away), large balcony, car parking around the oval if it's wet. Probably hasn't been much atmosphere at Marion in home & away in recent years because there hasn't been too many close games but I'm sure the balcony will be rocking if the scores are close with minute to go against Reynella and MVP or Morphett Vale in 2 weeks time.

Hopefully all clubs do the right thing because it's a hard oval to fence off especially if they are forking out $4-5K and running it themselves......does anyone know the SFL entry fee for finals?

On Brighton Oval's cricket pitch....outstanding pitch and regularly gets ATCA grand finals.

We had our mini's trophy night tonight and were lucky enough to have a special guest turn up in Brenton Sanderson, due to a friendship with a coach.
He was outstanding in offering his time, and posed for at least a million photo's, and signed at least the same amount of autographs.
I am tipping he does not read this forum (but he shoud ;) ), and I just wanted to commend him on his fantastic demenor and patience.
It was a great thrill for all the kids to be presented a trophy by a Geelong best & fairest. Apparently he coaches now as well. ;)

It's about both, and if fails hugely on both accounts

Saints v sharks - saints in a massacre invoke the mercy rule
Cobras v bombers - Cove need to win to stay in the hunt for finals, good win last week can keep it going
Towns v Roos - Roos building and need this to confrim top 4 finish
Vikings v Porties - Vikings will get the job done
Rams v Falcons - Rams in an upset, Falcons disappointing last week but was a very young side
Emus v Lions - Emus easily and need the points after poor showing last week

Seeing some clubs are in Glenelg's zone has there been any thought to playing the GF there? Would be ideal.

Don't the SFL have their office at South Adelaide? Could be a little awkward if they move it elsewhere...

As opposed to the tiny grass patch next to the playground at Porties. And we can't really ask any Christies player from Under 14 through to A grade their thoughts on Hickinbotham. You live too much in the past LGIL. All those premiership reunions from a bygone era has made you too nostalgic.

At least it was in view of the oval in a prominent spot, allowed people to watch the presentations at the same time as watching the next game, rather than hiding it away out of sight
