Essendon 2013

Talk on the national game

Re: Essendon 2013

Having read Hird's writ against the AFL where he states his inability to carry out his contractual obligations as coach would this be grounds for Essendon to sack him?

IMO Essendon need to find a way to sack Hird, take their penalties and move on. Let Hird and the AFL fight it out.
Surely it is time for EFC to look after their own interests and not those of Hird. I guess this was the path Evans wanted to take and anyone else that has resigned.

I'm no legal expert but im sure the AFL can do as they please to uphold the rules and regulations of the league. I.e they lay the charges and are both judge and jury. It is not a criminal case. I think this where people get confused. More than happy to be corrected if this is wrong

The governing body has every right to be judge and jury.
Cricket match fixing...does the ICC have the right to investigate, lay charges and prosecute the offenders...of course they do.
Horseracing saga recently...baseball drug taking...cycling..boxing ...the list goes on.

Criminal charges could still be laid out of this....The ACC kicked this all off did they not?

Will just be the blind diehards in their corner now (oh and probably some good lawyers lol)

I think all most of us want is the media to be unbiased though.
I agree that interview with the players mother was horrible but Crameri and Browne's fathers also called up today and said they were very happy with the information and reassurances the club has given them.
Of course the media wont report that because they are only after the dirt.
There has been some massive failings at the club, just hope the truth comes out and any parties responsible are punished

I was under the impression Crameri and Browne's fathers were quoted after the parents meeting but before the AFL released the charges. If correct i wonder what their opinion is now?

Essendon has had the charges for over a week.
The charges were released to the general public yesterday.
Both fathers have commented since yesterday I believe, numerous other parents have voiced their support aswell.

Its not just Hird though Days.
Doc Reid was offered to be let off scott free if he resigned and his exact words were "Tell them to get f**ked"
Corcoran and Thompson are also disputing the charges and could pursue other legal options aswell.
If it was as easy as just flicking Hird it would of been done by now

How egotistical can one person be.
I've got no respect for Hird what so ever anymore.
Resign you low piece of gutter scum and let these kids rebuild their lives without your self indulged wanted glories.

Vigorously agreed, Hird is a weasel and the sooner he is gone and never heard from again the better!

Hird is making the whole thing worse, not the AFL, if it was any other club or person involved, the issue probably would have been resolved by now.

Jackson was a blundering twat. Vlad has to go too.
In regards to the saga I'd be happy if the outcome was hird gets a life ban. What an egotistical wanker. Always has been arrogant and never rated him. The club would be better without him. If they stand by him prepare to suffer the consequences. President little does them no favours either.
Memo to essendon. Do not oust someone who is trying to negotiate on your behalf for the betterment of the club. Evans was that person. Gone so now you can cop your slaying.

And that statement sums up your football knowledge. He is an arrogant Karmichael Hunt but he was a brilliant footballer.

Why do people have trouble differentiating between great people and great footballers? They aren't mutually exclusive. Why the shock when a gun footballer turns out to be an arrogant person? Carey, Roo, Hird, Buckley would all be described as arrogant yet they were great players.

Put someone on a pedestal and the only thing they can do is fall.

He is a fringe player but cant imagine the club would take it out on him

As i said earlier Hird and Corcoran should be banished from the game forever.Thompson has bugger all to worry about and Reid should be dealt with by Medical Board if he has done anything unethical.
But its time for Essendon to stand up and either ask foir Hirds resignation or sack him. Its well and truly time for them to cut their losses and banish Hird.
At least if Essendon take their penalties now, most can move on and the individuals can do as they please in court against the AFL. Just stop effecting the rest of the competition. If they continue on this path it will be the end of the club and you will have nothing left.
I genuinely believe the club will have to fold if they stay the journey or play VFA as they will be kicked out.

FFS Jim, i love a good conspiracy as much as the next person but please...
Bellchambers omitted, has he refused to play another game under Hird????

What would the reason be that the AFL want Hird out of the game?
Did the AFL concoct the whole drug programme at EFC?
If the answer is no then EFC and Hird have nothing to complain about, they are cheats, not very good at it but still they are cheats in some form or anoither

I think I'm more alarmed that the club might have rung every single mother and asked if it was them. Surely not?

Another possible explanation could be that it was a legitimate call and the club knows who it is and is maybe trying to protect the player from the media.
Id say the age given is probably fake but the rest was legit.
After seeing all the media swarm around perhaps the club have decided to try and throw them off.
Personally I hope the players name isnt released, he doesnt deserve to be put through the media
