The Claytons charge. Bringing the game into disrepute, the charge you have when you haven't got a charge.

ESSENDON has offered James Hird a contract extension despite being banned from coaching the club for 12 months.

Bombers chairman Paul Little confirmed the club had moved to secure Hird's future by giving him a two or three-year contract extension beyond 2014, when his ban will expire on August 25.

"I don't want to give you precise details tonight because it hasn't been documented yet but there is an undertaking there for James to continue coaching at Essendon once he has served his sentence," Little said on Tuesday night.

i find this unbelievable...

Any chance of jumping ship at the end of the season??? ie Goddard????

Hird will be remembered as a cheat now. Not as a champion and a brownlow medalist now.

And remember this is only the start of Sanctions. The Asada case is still ongoing

So the AFL have maximised Essendons crowds for the year

We now may have some interest in trade week with Essendon being able to trade into the draft

The AFL wil be front page news next August with the Hird comeback game, Carlton, Hawthorn, Collingwood Friday night anyone????

The AFL is to Aussie rules what the WWE is to Roman Greco wrestling

Where to now for Golden boy James?

When this all first surfaced he said the buck stopped with him, then he spent several months of "I cant wait until the truth comes out"...well, James, we have waited and the penalties have been handed down yet you still want to protest your innocence and didn't even have the courage to face the music.

Not the man who I and many others thought he was.

The most bizarre decision for me is the 2014 draft sanctions
To me its just seems like an upgrade on our 2nd round pick, not really a punishment.
So let me get this right, we lose picks 1&2 this year.
Next year we lose Pick 1 and Pick 2 (likely to be around the mid to high 20's early 30's) BUT we are compensated with a pick at end of round 1 and before the priority picks ( approx 19-24 ) so I just make that out to be an upgraded pick 2 pr am I missing something

Will be interesting to see our side this week, with the VFL side cleared to play finals there could be up to 6 players eligible to play finals. Would the club look to stack the VFL side?

The draft sanctions will hurt as alot of bombers players will want out now and their contracts will be void if they do

Incorrect, the bullfrog said last night at the presser that Hird could attend AFL games, Then Eddie on 360 said afterwards that he was surprised that he was allowed and asked the question of can he then go and sit in the stand and watch training etc etc.

Or you could just look at it like you still get your round 1 pick, and miss out on your round 2 pick.

Could it work out that the pick they are given in round 1 be better than the round 1 pick they would get if they weren't penalised at all? Eg. They finish top, but get pick 19 (as their round 2 pick brought forward)?

Just paid my deposit on 2014 membership. Love the move by Essendon to renew Hirdy's contract and up it by a couple of years just to stick it up the AFL. Pissing myself. Go Bombers

He is innocent of 99% of the charges

That's why he got banned for 12 months. If he had been guilty of 100% of the charges he would have been banned for 100 years.

So, phew!

Trying to be more serious now ... watching his press conference its clear in his mind this is all the doing of Dank and Robinson. All he thinks he is guilty of is not doing enough to know what Dank and the Weapon were doing (note he didn't name names, just said "others").

I'd have liked someone to ask him how Dank and Robinson arrived at the club and what instructions they were given before they went off behind his back and ran amok.
