Up until 12 noon yesterday the Bombers were having a great weekend but it came crashing down a bit with losses in the Under 18, B grade and A grade. The first 2 were 50/50 games going in and we were underdogs in the A grade, but still a sombre mood having those 3 teams eliminated in the space of 4 hours.

The A grade was a fantastic game in which Brighton travelled like winners nearly all day but the Townies somehow managed to never let the margin get out to more than 2 goals up until 3 qtr time. But when the Bombers went 25 points up after the first 2 goals of the last qtr we looked home but Townies kicked 6 of the last 7 goals and got up by 6 points. Extra Time looked very much on the cards at one stage but a late goal sealed it.

3 of the 4 finals decided by less than 3 goals so a good start to the SFL finals series.

Sets up an intriguing semi-final this week with the Vikings and Townies coaches both having coached the other club in the past.

Sounds like a great game DTH and Brighton deserve plaudits for the results from a young team.
Edwardstown have run Valley pretty close earlier in the year, so I expect it will be a tough game at Christies this week.
Will be interesting to see what approach Porter will take, as last time we played them they stuck massive numbers behind the ball and it worked well for 3 quarters.

We did the stats the other night. 41 lads played A grade this year at Brighton. 18 were under 21 and another 16 aged 22 to 27. Of the remaining 7, 2 of those only played a handful of games. Keep this group together and we'll be OK. Always nice for a Betterman or Norsworthy type to lob on your doorstep, like those guys did, and you increase the chances of that happening if you have a good coach and good young squad that plans to stick together for a while.

Agree - not that there should be any additional incentive needed but our lads would be very keen to make sure their former coach doesnt stop them from making a Prelim. They also know his gameplan very well - majority of the guys that will make up the A grade this week would have played under him. Dont know how many current Townies were coached by Dent?

Maybe I would believe your were just repeating gossip if your posting history didn't reveal a history of trolling

Trolling is when a user intentionally causes distress by posting inflammatory comments on a public forum. My comments would only cause distress because they are around the mark. Sometimes people don't like the truth.

W&D
Had 4 this year, might only need 4 next year. Lets just see what happens with college football in the next few years. Sunday football may be the only option. I know you would prefer our club to still be at the bottom of the ladder with only 2 junior teams. Sorry for trying to make another competitive club in the SFL.

Yep had 4 teams 2 on Saturday a 3rd as part time default Saturday which impacted on other clubs and a Sunday 14 side, so even if the SFL and clubs are silly enough to move to under 15/17 football you still will not meet the should be criteria for competing by fielding all sides on a Saturday. I know you will all whine about this post. However at the commencement of the season you were not even attempting to field Saturday juniors, all your advertising for Juniors was all games played on SUNDAYS when this did not work you went crying to the league who against the wishes of the majority of clubs bowed to you and Brighton.

Rather than saying "Lets just see what happens with college football in the next few years" Why don't MP and other clubs band together approach the SFL get them to work with other leagues and the SANFL to sort the problem out. It does nothing but weaken the standard of football both at club and school to have the talent split.

At this stage reality is MP and a number of other clubs will not be able to field juniors going forward not only because of school but other social reasons. Moving to 15/17 will not help field sides on a Saturday.

Disagree with your comment on #7...seemed to be one of only a handful of players showing some passion (in old terms c**t) & he was only giving out as good as he was given. Overall it was a good game by Reynella & the Emus were out played & out coached. Looked like there was no game plan. Lad has fractured ribs & done an AC so the 'pretty big hit' did its job :( Footy is such a cruel game when alot of players are self employed.....

The Hound wrote:Saw the wineflies feast on some emu yesterday, game was won in second quarter when mv did bugger all kicking with the breeze. Hope the mv lad who took a pretty big hit in the 3rd qtr is ok, looked like ribs or shoulder.

The supporters near the mv dug out gave me some comedy for the first qtr, learn to have a balanced view, you said reynella were head hunters, what about #7 for you all he did was give cheap shots in his tackles all game.

Was amongst the crowd on the balcony & it may have a been a bit over the top but given the information that the hit/bump was behind the play etc, a few supporters were ticked off....there was no swearing at the Reynella lad at all & the only thing actually asked of him was 'why?' & he didnt respond apart from smiling & shrugging his shoulders but quite a few of the Reynella players started swearing & giving the finger so the good ol banter continues.....the rest of the crap was due to an earlier incident in the 1st quarter between a couple of supporters......what can we say, every club has em

Was at the Reynella Morphett Vale game and can comfortably say that the Reynella lads played the game hard and fair!
The bump in the third quarter was a very fair shepherd within 5 metres of the ball and not high! The abuse the Morphett vale supporters gave to the Reynella player as he was heading off at the end of the game was disgraceful, I hope they left the ground that day totally embarrassed and ashamed of themselves or they clearly don't understand the game! Yes the MV player has broken ribs but the hit was fair and part of the game, some people have to take a good hard look at themselves when supporting and if they can't hold their heads while supporting they should stay in their car and support from their!! Not abuse players as they head into the change rooms from the balcony, should be embarrassed!

As I am only new to the league maybe I need to get use to some of the actions from supporters![/quote]

I'm sure the best trainers in the SFL will work some magic and get him up for Saturday. Although I wonder what may happen if Dent wants to play him this week against the wishes of the Head Trainer.

I am sure he will have at least 4 of their 27 trainers dedicated to him

Maybe they should be reported to the AFL for bringing the game into disrepute!

Not sure why they would employ special tactics on Doughty. He's far from their most influential player. He has no doubt helped in experience and with marshalling the troops, but he's certainly not tearing the games apart. If it was just done because he's a "name player", then that's ridiculous and a complete waste of time.

Interesting to note that Doughty hasn't been listed in the best since round 16, but was named second best on Saturday. So whatever tactics they did employ seemed to have the reverse effect.

Well clearly you wouldn't want to be exposed to such behaviour twice every season.

PS: Those who were questioning Marion Oval as a finals venue - it appears it was not lacking in atmosphere on Saturday.
