Good question.
I haven't yet met a magistrate who would not react very negatively to any attempt to intimidate.
(I know a few socially these days.)

My barrister mate who helped me out with the speeding charge was quite clear that a persuasive, softly softly, approach was the only way to go.
He was very careful to not even appear to criticise the police involved any any direct way, despite some inaccuracies in their report.
(He did get the one giving evidence to contradict himself with gentle polite questioning.)

His comment to me was that most magistrates have a left bias, which is why they take on the job when they could earn more money elsewhere, and are usually inclined to react against any direct challenge to a police officer's version of events. He said my status as a "Yuppie" in a Porsche would definitely be inclined to create a bias against me and would need careful handling.

(For the very young "Yuppie" was a 1980s term for "young, upwardly mobile, professional".)
